About Berman Skin Institute (BSI):  Founded a quarter century ago by David Berman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist, BSI's mission is to blend state-of-the-art medical technology and research with a dedication to patient welfare and healing to provide patients with the best possible dermatologic care.  Berman Skin Institute is a group of dermatology clinics with eleven medical clinic locations across Northern California, including Los Altos, Cameron Park, Fremont, Placerville, Pleasanton, Roseville, Sacramento, San Francisco, Tracy, Walnut Creek and Yuba City.  With a well-established and diverse patient population, BSI has a set of broad and comprehensive service offerings, including medical and surgical dermatology, including treatment for acne, moles, allergic skin reactions, autoimmune diseases, skin infections, Mohs skin cancer surgery, cosmetic dermatology (including laser treatment of unwanted hair, sun damage and wrinkled skin, unwanted tattoos, red or brown discoloration of the skin, varicose/spider veins of the legs and face, etc), skin care products and medi-spa/aesthetician treatments such as  chemical peels, microdermabrasion,  and HydraFacials.  BSI is one of the largest skin laser centers in the world, with over 50 lasers on site, and many other non-laser devices for skin and hair conditions, such as 4 ARTAS robots for hair transplant.

BSI is looking for energetic Medical Assistants to join our growing dermatology and cosmetic surgery practices. Excellent patient care is our number one priority with a team approach to service. The right candidate is polished, friendly, professional, motivated, a team player, emotionally and professionally mature, has initiative to problem solve and empowered to address issues as they arise. BSI has opportunities for a Medical Assistant at multiple locations across our offices in the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento Valley region.

Hourly range from $21.00 to $28.00 an hour depending on experience.

Position Summary

• Serve as a patient advocate during patient exam and treatment
  
• Show patients to examination rooms, procedure rooms or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician
• Record patient's medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records
• Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to preparing a patient for treatment
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician following safety protocol of right dose, right patient, right route, right drug and noting expiration date
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, wound care instructions and physician's instructions to patients
• Help physician examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing tasks such as removing sutures
• Under physician direction, authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
• Prepare and clean exam rooms and medical equipment in between each patient and at the end of the day
• Assist physician with surgical procedures while maintaining sterile field
  
• Correctly dispose of infectious waste and bio hazard materials
• Schedule appointments for patients
  
• Inventory and assess the need for instruments, supplies and equipment while keeping the room stocked
• Performs accurate documentation of all procedures in a timely manner
  
• Inventory and order medical supplies monthly and ensure all equipment is in proper working order
• Adheres to all policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service
• Performs other duties as needed

Required Qualification (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

Education/Training

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Medical Assistant
• CPR

 Additional Skills

• Knowledge of sterile technique, anatomy, and medications
• Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
  
• Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations
• Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and teammate support needs
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  
• Basic to intermediate computer operation
  
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines

Additional Knowledge/Skills

• 2+ year's experience in a medical setting preferred
• Dermatology experience a plus
• High level of emotional and professional maturity and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and trust, navigate and flex to varied personalities and communications styles
• Unquestionable work ethic, personal integrity, and honesty
• Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environment
