- Responsible for the University's fixed asset accounting.
- Maintain the schools Fixed Assets in compliance with GAAP and university policies
- Reconcile monthly fixed asset purchases to the general ledger
- Update the fixed asset software system (Sage) for capital purchases.
- Maintain construction in progress schedules for new construction and building improvements
- Review repairs and maintenance expenditures on a monthly basis
- Perform yearly physical inventory of all movable equipment
- Tag movable asset purchases on campus and upload into the software system
- Reconcile the university's Accounts Payable bank account on a monthly basis. The accounts payable bank reconciliation requires confirming that the general ledger accounts payable system reports correspond to information provided by the bank and resolving any discrepancies by making corrections to the general ledger or identify timing differences
- Process debt entries and maintain Bond binders and Deposit with Trustees with backup invoices and statements. Prepare lead schedules and reconcile to the general ledger
- Reconcile State Scholarships in order to maintain compliance with the states and to ensure student records and finance general ledger are accurate
- Administer and maintain abandoned property process including reconciliation to the general ledger. Work with student services, accounts payable and payroll to prepare necessary documentation, file with the states and complete reconciliation reports
- Assist with annual audit as well as monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger closing process
- Participate in cross-training efforts within the department in order to provide backup and support for other Finance team members

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- At least three years progressive experience with general ledger accounting
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with five or more years of experience in the proficient use of spreadsheets, query tools and financial databases
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with multiple constituents within the university
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks within tight timelines and simultaneously manage several projects withing or in advance of stated deadlines
- CPA or master's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Experience with a fixed asset accounting.
- Experience with Workday Enterprise Applications
- Advanced proficiency with Ellucian Banner or similar enterprise application.
- Progressive experience in general accounting in a not-for-profit educational institution

Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting and financial reporting activities within the Finance Office and has the potential to grow within the Accounting/Finance departments over the next several years.
In its current capacity, the Senior Accountant serves as the primary responsible person for all related fixed asset and debt accounting in addition to performing several other general ledger accounting activities such as the monthly reconciliation of Account Payable bank account statements, abandoned property administrations and other projects as needed.
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant also interacts closely with the Assistant Controller, Associate Vice President for Finance and the University Budget Manager and must work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
This position provides an individual with knowledge of how a university operates financially and offers professional development opportunities within the higher education industry.
