- Answer inbound patient calls in a call center setting.
- Respond to patient emails in the Electronic Medical Record system.
- Make outbound collection calls to patients to gather necessary payment information.
- Perform straightforward coding tasks such as reviewing patient charts for billing implications or referrals.
- Offer price estimates to patients.
- Process credit card payments while adhering to the Credit Card Handling policy.
- Negotiate payment plans with patients.
- Identify patients in need of financial assistance. Obtain and assess financial information to determine if documentation is required, ensuring confidential handling of supporting financial documentation.
- Investigate and resolve payment issues on patient accounts.
- Act as a liaison between patients and other departments when necessary.
- Handle incoming mail and faxes.
- Meet departmental productivity and quality metrics.
- Manage accounts within a work queue in the Electronic Medical Record system and take appropriate actions.

Description
The Patient Account Representative is the key player when it comes to handling billing, collections, managing coding seamlessly, and overseeing all account receivable tasks for the physician clinics within Saint Luke's Health System. Responsibilities include responding to both incoming and outgoing billing inquiries from patients, processing payments, resolving payment discrepancies, identifying and rectifying medical claim errors that could hinder payments, and addressing, correcting, and resubmitting medical claims rejected by insurance companies.
The percentage of time dedicated to the job duties mentioned above will vary depending on the specific focus area of the assigned team. Below is a brief overview of the specific duties of the team, which may include additional responsibilities as assigned:
This position requires work hours from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
For this role, the ideal candidate should have at least 1 year of previous experience in medical billing and/or customer service.
