QUALIFICATIONS :
Licensing and Certification:
Hold a current, unencumbered license in this state as a registered nurse or licensed practical. Must be registered with the State Board of Registration in this state.
Education:
Must be a graduate of a state approved school of professional nursing or practical nursing
Experience:
At least six months experience preferred as a staff nurse in a long- term care facility
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to work effectively with other nursing staff in establishing best quality of resident care
JOB KNOWLEDGE :
Nursing policies and procedures; operate within scope of Nurse Practice Act; administration of medication, possible side effects, and treatments as prescribed; federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to resident care; comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices; physical, psychological, social, and medical needs of residents; organizational structure and duties of employees under supervision
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
1. Responsible for nursing care of residents during his/her shift. 2. Recognize significant changes in conditions of residents during his/her shift or unit. 3. Supervise direct resident-care personnel on the shift or unit. 4. Prepare and administer or supervise preparation and administration of medications and prescribed treatments. 5. Supervise serving of prescribed diets and fluid intake. 6. Chart medications and treatments according to procedure. 7. Ensure rehabilitative nursing procedures are performed. 8. Direct and maintain charts on his/her shift. 9. Verify inventory of drugs covered by Controlled Substances Act of Participate in staff meetings. 11. Consult with supervisor and Director of Nursing when necessary. 12. Assign personnel according to nursing services policy. 13. Provide guidance to personnel, evaluate performance, and discuss progress and needs for improvement. 14. Review time schedules and notify director of nursing if adequate personnel are not on duty. 15. Assist in interpreting goals and objectives of facility to nursing service personnel. 16. Assist with orientation and educational programs for nursing personnel. 17. Supervise nurse assistants/nurse aides in performing duties by checking their work closely to be sure assignments have been completed. 18. Administer parenteral, intramuscular, and sub-cutaneous injections. 19. Ensure individual Resident Assessment and Comprehensive Care Plan is followed. 20. Transcribe physician's orders. 21.
Assist in writing and updating Resident Assessment and Comprehensive Care Plans as resident's condition changes, assisted by the nursing director, activities director, and food service supervisor.
22. Recommend changes regarding number of staff and work performed. 23. Personally receive or place calls to physicians. 24. Order medications. 25. Be sensitive to resident families and respond in an appropriate professional manner. 26. Make rounds with physicians.OTHER WORK VARIABLES :
