    The Position
    Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems.

    Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.

    Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.

    OR Incumbents perform basic tasks or elements of the job not requiring the additional knowledge, skills and abilities to perform at the next level in the series.

    The Department of Corrections is seeking an Accountant Technician I in Carson City. These positions typically supervise lower-level accounting or other clerical positions. Incumbent must function with considerable independence.

    Steps to be taken in completing specialized transactions, resolving processing problems, researching and correcting errors, and reconciling accounts often are not clearly dictated by regulations and require a series of actions which may vary with specific circumstances.

    This position reviews and verifies the validity of expenditures and performs complex account reconciliations.

    This position is located at Nevada Department of Correction, Inmate Services, in Carson City and is responsible for the following tasks:

    Monthly payments to the courts and P&P; reconciling commissary funds and inmate phones; debt collection; unclaimed property; daily payment vouchers; editing work of other employees; other reconciliations required on a monthly basis.

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

    Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience which includes such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR two years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting.
