    Job DescriptionThe Process Engineer is responsible for developing, analyzing, and implementing new ormodified process technologies, products, equipment, and systems for all Plant 5 manufacturingprocesses under the guidance of the Plant 5 Plant Manager.

    This position provides leadership inproblem solving and supports production personnel to improve quality and productivity whileaiming to reduce operating costs.

    The Process Engineer implements process improvements andcontrols to reduce defects, scrap, rework, and downtime in production.

    Developmental work iscoordinated with all necessary departments and is performed in accordance with acceptable andcustomary manufacturing practices while utilizing quality improvement techniques andexperimental designs.


    Duties Responsibilities:

    • Process improvement - Uses process data (defect, scrap, rework, OEE, etc.) to identify processweaknesses and develops process methods, materials, training, and equipment modifications toobtain improvement. Various quality methods are utilized, as is the bar code informationsystem. Participation and leadership of task groups is required. Interaction with productionpersonnel is an integral part of the improvement process. Support Carlisle Operating Systeminitiatives through training, participation in events, follow up and assisting with the training andcoaching of others.
    • Technical assistance to production personnel - Helps resolve problems relating to materials,methods, and equipment. Develops and employs expertise in all areas of the plant(compounding, extrusion, web handling, adhesive coating) Utilizes extensive knowledge andexperience with manufacturing processes to identify root causes and implement permanentcorrective measures. Coaches and teaches production personnel to assume "line ownership ofquality."
    • Process control - Verifies and maintains control of production processes and variability throughthe development, writing, issuing and revision of written process specifications. Implements andtrains pertinent positions in the use of statistical process control methods to identify factorsinfluencing process stability. Controlled factors include scrap, defects, rework, throughput rates,and dimensional characteristics as well as various aesthetic factors pertinent to customersatisfaction.
    • Project management/support - Assumes leadership and responsibility for various projects in theplant including but not limited to: introduction of new technology and cost reduction; support andparticipation in the evaluation of R D trials and experimentation for the development of newproducts, processes, and cost reduction; new product or process start-up, and the justification ofnew equipment or capital to improve processes.
    • Development and maintenance of information systems. Responsible for maintenance/calibrationof dimensional control systems, scrap/defect/rework tracking system and reports, mixing controlsystem, and development/implementation of bar code system. Verify/report on/troubleshoot SAPinformation. Also responsible for various reports on projects and processes.
    Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.


    RequirementsEducation Experience:

    Education:
    BS in Engineering or Science with math through algebra and geometry, chemistry, andphysics. Coursework in statistical process control and plastics technology is a plus.
    Experience: 1-4 years of plastic processing experience in a technical support role is desirable but notrequiredWork Environment/

    Work Environment:
    o 70% of time is spent working in the plant on projects, observing processes, and troubleshootingo 30% of time is spent working in the office writing reports, working on a computer, andconducting data analysiso Plant ambient temperature in the summer matches the outside temperatureo Exposure to solvent fumes and loud noise levels (PPE Provided)o Fast paced production environment that can be stressful and demanding

    Time Worked:
    o Monday - Friday with occasional Saturday/Sunday work to support production needso Typical daylight hours from 7:00AM - 4:00PM to support three shifts of operation withoccasional work before/after hours to follow trials, resolve process difficulties or start up newequipmento This position is on-call for process upsets that are not resolvable by line personnel
