    NEEDED: Nuclear Medicine Technologists

    LOCATION: 3801 Miranda Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304

    SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m. to 4:30 p.m.,

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Shall be a graduate of an approved nuclear medicine technology training program
    • Certified as Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
    • Must have a minimum of five (5) years of proven clinical experience in Nuclear Medicine in a level 1 hospital setting, proven clinical work experience within the past 12 months.
    • CEUs must be up to date.
    • Prior VA experience is desirable.
    • Completed training from an accredited institution.
    • Shall have received a certificate of completion of training in Nuclear Medicine and be board certified in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).
    • CPR or BLS, ACLS Certification

    DUTIES: 95% of their work time is involved in direct patient care.

    • Perform all procedures in sub-specialized area, including evaluation of indication, protocol, triaging, and previewing for exam quality at completion of exam.
    • The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is primarily concerned with (1) combined specialized knowledge of equipment and human anatomy to provide quality diagnostic images for the physician to examine and (2) patient's safety and comfort.
    • Advises radiologists or referring physicians of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention and visualization while the patient is undergoing examination.
    • Provide patient care which is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient population.
    • Positions patients within the examining unit, monitors the patient during all phases of the examination.
    • Makes multiple simultaneous settings and adjustments in operation of equipment to insure accurate results.
    • On the basis of findings, determines necessary Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures to yield definitive diagnostic findings.
    • Maintains adequate supplies so that examinations are not delayed due to the lack of necessary equipment and supplies.
    • Assess, identify needs, plan, implement appropriate interventions, document, and evaluate outcomes of all patients within the Nuclear Medicine section.
    • Assess the patient's conduction before, during and after the procedure is of high quality.
    • Explains examinations to be performed on the patients so that an understanding of the purpose of the study as well as any requirements of the patients are thoroughly understood.
    • Gathers related information such as patient electronic medical record, X-rays, etc.,
    • Distributes nuclear medicine examinations and related information to the radiologist responsible for the interpretation of the exams.
    • Assists quality assurance technologists in performing quality assurance testing on the nuclear medicine unit using phantoms, test tools, test check lists, etc. for the purpose of assuring peak performance of the equipment.
    • Maintains records of the quality assurance testing so that easy reference is available should servicing be necessary: (weekly basis)
    • Performs or supervises routine housekeeping duties to assure that the nuclear medicine section area is clean and sanitary.
    • Selects the most pertinent images and electronically transmits them through the hospital and radiology network to the PACS system for image viewing distribution and permanent archive in PACS and WEBPACS throughout radiology and the hospital.
    • Continually evaluate image quality on the computer viewing station.
    • Determine if problems can be corrected independently or need to be referred to the Biomedical Engineering personnel and/ or appropriate vendor for repair.
    • Shall be aware of and practice the safety policies/procedures of the medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as directed.
    • Shall schedule and coordinate patients for various procedures according to room and time availability. Maintains records of patients treated, examination performed and any medical notations.
    • Examination quality shall be of such that the physician will be able to evaluate and treat the patient's condition without requiring repeat examinations.
    • All patient safety incidents must be reported within 24 hours using the electronic reporting system (ePERS).
    • Provide standby (on-call) and call back services for emergent nuclear medicine procedures for the medical center.
