    • Position Summary
    • This is responsible technical work in the operation of sophisticated physiologic monitoring devices that provides information to physicians and perfusionists in the management of patient care during surgery.

    Responsibilities include but are not exclusive to:
    set up, calibration, operation maintenance check, assisting, teaching, troubleshooting and interpretation of physiologic monitoring devices.


    • Assists the cardiovascular perfusionists during open heart surgery. Set up and operate the intra-aortic balloon pump and blood conservation devices. Performs quality control tests on departmental laboratory equipment, preventive maintenance, data collection, and maintenance of inventories in the pump room and anesthesia prep room.
    • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
    • Education: Knowledge of the proper use of sophisticated physiologic monitoring devices, cardiovascular physiology and applied cardiovascular techniques. This is normally acquired through the completion of a two-year program in Cardiovascular Technology or a related Health Sciences degree.
    • License/Certifications: N/A
    • Experience: Experience in a health care profession including direct patient care or education providing operating room training.
    • Basic analytical ability is required to assist in monitoring cardiopulmonary bypass, calibrate equipment, electronic instrumentation, and recognize abnormal physiology as it may occur to a patient during surgery.
    • Ability to view monitors for extensive periods of time (at least 50% resulting in frequent visual strain).
    • Knowledge of sterile technique.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced highly stressful environment requiring consistency and accuracy of action.
    • Flexibility to act and react effectively to various unforeseen changes in the Operating Room.
    • Ability to take call on a rotating basis.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers, supervisors and other hospital personnel. Deals with problems in a courteous and tactful manner.
    • Must be mature, responsible person who is attuned to the patient's emotional needs during a highly stressful experience in his/her life.
