    Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3 12 hr rotating shifts, including some weekends & holidays

    Job Summary/Purpose : 7 West MedSurg & Surgical Oncology is a high acuity 24 bed adult inpatient unit specializing in gynecology oncology, head/neck oncology and head/neck benign patients.

    7 West also provides care for a variety of other medical/surgical patient populations including but not limited to management of behavioral, respiratory, endocrine, GI, and trauma patients.

    The unit manages patients receiving inpatient chemotherapy, radiation, leech therapy, total parenteral nutrition and enteral nutrition.

    This unit cares for complex microvascular head and neck flap patients which includes complex wound management, tracheostomy and laryngectomy patient care.

    The unit also manages palliative and hospice patient populations at varying stages of their disease progression to include aggressive pain management.

    Because of the diversity of populations cared for in this unit, once hired 7 West encourages and offers opportunities for their nurses to obtain specialty certification in a number of areas to include oncology, head and neck, med/surg, and palliative care.

    Minimum Training and Education :
    Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.

    RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

    Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.

    Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations : Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
