    Description

    Position Summary

    Operate a transit bus over an assigned route on a time schedule; pick up and transport passengers and drop them off at their destination in a safe and polite manner; monitor fare collection properly; exhibit appropriate public relations skills during interactions with the public.

    This role requires adhering to random drug/alcohol testing for safety purposes.

    Minimum Education, Experience and Additional Requirements

    • High School diploma, GED, or successful completion of two (2) WorkKeys Skills Assessments.
    • One (1) year of experience in customer service involving the general public.
    • Minimum age requirement of 18 years.
    • Valid driver's license held for the past two (2) continuous years.
    • Current driving record obtained within the last six (6) months.
    • Additional Requirements:

      Upon hire, candidate must meet additional requirements:

      • Obtain a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months of hire date.
      • Acquire a New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class B with Passenger (P) endorsement within two (2) weeks of completing City training.
      • Maintain CDL once obtained.
      • Pass U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) physical exam and mandatory drug testing.
      • Successfully complete Motorcoach Operator training.

      Preferably, candidate should have experience in business-related driving, such as delivery/sales or passenger transportation.

      Preferred Knowledge

      • Use of air brakes
      • City streets and roads
      • Operational characteristics of equipment for assigned vehicles
      • Customer service principles and practices
      • Record-keeping principles and procedures
      • Standard safety practices and potential hazards related to operating assigned vehicles

      • Understand the operations, services, and activities of a public transportation program
      • Drive in adverse weather conditions
      • Maintain necessary certifications
      • Complete mandatory reports
      • Handle inquiries from the public effectively
      • Demonstrate interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and courtesy
      • Communicate clearly and concisely
      • Establish and maintain effective working relationships
      • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
