- Initial work up of patients such as gathering chief complaint, ocular and systemic history, past family and social history and complete review of systems
- Measuring visual acuities, intraocular pressures, refraction, pachymetry and more
- Performing tests aimed at diagnosing ocular ailments, disorders, and other problems
- Assists with in-office procedures and injections ensuring proper informed consent is obtained
- Assists with patient education.
- Scribe in electronic medical records format to document the patient visit and examination
- Assist with stocking supplies, ensuring cleanliness of patient exams room or office and other administrative or clinical duties as assigned
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of previous experience as an optometric technician is required
- Strong organization with attention to detail
- Must have the ability to establish confidence and trust with patients
- Must have the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
- Provide excellent customer service and demonstrate excellent communication, telephone and grammar skills
- Must have an empathetic and compassionate manner
- Ability to perform as part of a team as well as work independently
- Demonstrated computer literacy

Technicians are responsible for assisting the Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist by documenting patient information into the Electronic Health Record as well as taking ocular measurements and administering treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician.
