    Position Description:
    Provides professional care for patients with obstetric and gynecologic needs. Assists patients in labor and delivery, as well as postpartum care. Ensures safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. Performs a variety of tasks. Works in conjunction with a practicing physician. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager

    Major/Essential Functions:

    • Provides services in an interdisciplinary midwifery program
    • Provides full scope midwifery services to a largely Hispanic population in a medically underserved area.
    • Responsibilities include providing medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients in a division which is moving to 24/7coverage of births.
    • Educate nurse-midwifery and medical students with an interdisciplinary approach incorporating OB/GYN residents.
    • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations.
    • Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrates Professionalism in accordance with Paul L. Foster School of Medicine Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Requires certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife, a bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area
    • Must be a registered nurse in the State of Texas and familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
