    Job Description

    The position is responsible for the overall management of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs (EHS) within the Anoka, MN Federal Ammunition locations. This includes direction and assistance to the Operations, Support and Resource Teams to fulfill their objectives under the Strategic Plan Deployment. This position will ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations governing the site in the areas of Environmental, Health, and Safety. This is to include all applicable Environmental, ISO, Occupational Safety and Health, Department of Transportation, Department of Defense, ATF, and Energetic Operating Standards (EOS) procedures.

    This position reports to our Director of Operations Compliance and is based out of our Anoka, Minnesota location.

    As the Sr. Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, you will have the opportunity to:

    • Develop comprehensive EHS Strategy to identify, quantify, and mitigate risk to the environment, people, process, and profitability of ongoing complicated, diverse operations at Federal Ammunition operations.
    • Perform as a leader for a complex operating plant with complex regulatory requirements combined with significant legacy environmental history.
    • Serve as an agent for change, challenging the status quo and enabling / empowering new and innovative solutions to known problems.
    • Develop, evaluate, implement, and direct environmental health and safety policies, programs, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, regulations, and requirements.
    • Develop and lead comprehensive cross discipline EHS improvement plans across site and operations.
    • Lead, coach, and develop cross-functional team / staff of Environment, Health, and Safety subject matter experts and leverage corporate support function to complement known gaps.
    • Develop relationships with other support and operations team leaders and work with these teams to collectively address and resolve challenges to improve compliance.
    • Utilize expert Project Management leadership skills to ensure workplans are developed, executed, and documented.
    • Effectively influence peer leaders regarding their ownership for day-to-day operations related to EHS excellence.
    • Ensure proper and timely investigation and reporting of environmental health and safety associated incidents.
    • Develop and maintain impactful working relationships with key external stakeholders, regulators, and the public at large.
    • Manage relationships / contracts with various contractors/consultants to achieve EHS excellence while controlling cost.
    • Ensure determination of root cause and implementation of appropriate corrective action including development/enhancement of environmental health and safety policies related to events.
    • Lead the EHS function and maintain focus on the technical expertise, bench strength, and leadership/change management skills necessary to support Federal operations.
    • Ensure comprehensive strategic/continuous improvement plan exists for regulatory compliance activities.
    • Effectively engage and influence entities including corporate organizations and regulators.
    • Coordinate all activities of Federal's Process Safety Management program for the manufacture and handling of explosives to include serving as Chair of the Management of Change program board.
    • Lead a team responsible for hazard analysis of complex explosives manufacturing and chemical processes.
    • Provide guidance to Federal Operation's Senior Management and the Senior Director of Operations.
    • Assist with inspections of other ammunition manufacturing locations in U.S., as requested.

    You have/are:

    • A bachelor's degree in science or engineering. Ideally with a focus on environmental engineering. Master's degree is preferred.
    • 10 years of related experience with a focus on environmental regulations with strong focus on air emissions preferable.
    • Experience and knowledge of regulations and interpretations associated with OSHA.
    • Experience and proven success managing compliance teams in a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
    • Able to communicate well with all types of employees.
    • Experience in a leadership capacity, leading multi-functional teams.
    • Available and on-call to respond to emergencies 24/7/365.
    • Willing to work a flexible schedule to support all operating shifts, as required.
