HumanEdge Health is seeking a Travel Pathology Assistant for a 13-week assignment in White Plains, New York. This role supports the Anatomic Pathology department in an acute care hospital setting.

Position Summary

Assist in the preparation and performance of gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens utilizing established section guidelines and voice recognition dictation systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens

• Under pathologist supervision, describe gross anatomic features and prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination

• Prepare frozen and permanent sections for light microscopy, including image capture as requested

• Ensure accurate specimen accessioning and labeling

• Retrieve clinical history, lab data, scans, and X-rays as indicated

• Assist in coding gross specimens during dictation

• Coordinate and organize grossing workflow across both grossing tables

• Utilize and troubleshoot Voice Recognition templates and dictation systems

• Assist with staining and cover slipping for frozen sections

• Download and print cassettes from LIS and accurately enter block/tissue counts

• Select and submit specimens for decalcification

• Assist with gross room inventory management

• Demonstrate safe use of grossing table, handsaw, and cryostat

• Prepare specimens for histology as needed

• Assist with post-mortem examinations when required

• Maintain communication with pathologists and histology staff

• Update Gross Room Manual as needed

• Perform additional related duties as assigned

Requirements

• New York State license required

• BLS (AHA) required

• Minimum 1 year of experience required

• B.S. Degree in Biology or related science

• Completion of Pathologists' Assistant Program or equivalent

• ASCP certification preferred

• Prior experience (2+ years) preferred
