    Clinical Research Coordinator Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

    Drs. Hamed Khalili and Tracey Simon of the Massachusetts General Hospital Gastrointestinal Unit are in search of a Clinical Research Coordinator to work on the NIH Nutrition for Precision Health (NPH) study and research involving patients with liver diseases. We seek to better understand the environmental risk factors, particularly dietary, reproductive, and lifestyle factors, in the development of a variety of gastrointestinal disorders, primarily including inflammatory bowel disease and cirrhosis.

    Drs. Khalili and Simon's research group includes a Clinical Research Project Manager and Clinical Research Coordinators who will be available for assistance, education, and guidance. Candidates from racial and ethnic groups that have been shown by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in health-related sciences are encouraged to apply.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :


    • Identifying and recruiting patients to participate in research

    • Attending patient appointments and procedures to collect research samples and data

    • Processing, storage, and management of biospecimens from study participants

    • Maintenance of regulatory documentation for all study participants

    • Medical chart review and data abstraction

    • Study and protocol coordination, revision, and development

    • Shared housekeeping tasks such as ordering supplies and scheduling meetings

    A Clinical Research Coordinator II performs the duties of a Clinical Research Coordinator I (above) and may also:

  • Maintain research data, patient fields, regulatory binders and study databases
  • Perform data analysis and QA/QC data checks
  • Organize and interpret data
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies
  • Act as a study resource for patient and family
  • Monitor and evaluation lab and procedure data
  • Evaluate study questionnaires
  • Contribute to protocol recommendations
  • Assist with preparation of annual review
  • May assist PI to prepare complete study reports

    SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED :


    • Excellent communication skills, including ability to interact with patients and study subjects

    • Ability to work well independently and within a multi-disciplinary team

    • A strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, resourcefulness and desire to take initiative

    • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple dynamic projects and commitments

    • A strong interest in a career in healthcare or biomedical research

    • Competency with Microsoft Word and Excel

    • Familiarity with performing scientific literature searches

    • Basic laboratory skills

    • At minimum a bachelor's degree

    • Willingness to commit to at least two years in the position is preferred.

    The Clinical Research Coordinator II should also possess:

  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
  • Ability to interpret acceptability of data results
  • Working knowledge of data management program

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • EXPERIENCE:
  • New graduates with some relevant course/project work or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator I position outlined above.
  • Those with a minimum of 1-2 years of directly related work experience will be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

  • A Clinical Research Coordinator I does not have any supervisory responsibility.
  • A Clinical Research Coordinator II may assist with the training and orientation of new staff members.
