    The Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer (SVP/CFO) is a core member of the UCSF Health System leadership team, serving as a member of the System's Leadership Council which reviews and shapes Health System policies, aligning strategic priorities with System goals and objectives, and adjudicating complex and large-scale issues that the System faces.

    Under the direction of the President/Chief Executive Officer, Suresh Gunasekaran, the SVP/CFO is responsible for the financial management of the Health System.


    The SVP has direct responsibility for:

    financial planning, capital planning, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, reimbursement, revenue cycle, financing and design and operation of internal control systems.

    As a member of the senior management team, the SVP/CFO participates in the formation, communication and implementation of strategic plans and institutional policy, and will also assume the leadership role for key initiatives that cross departmental lines.

    The SVP/CFO also plays a key role in supporting the organization's Lean cultural transformation through leading by example with the Lean guiding principles.

    The incumbent serves as a representative of the Health System to other UCSF entities and at the Office of the President.

    The SVP/CFO serves as one of the executives that negotiates with outside third parties on the Health System's behalf and is the designated reviewer of significant finance transactions.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    UCSF Health's next SVP/CFO must demonstrate leadership and creativity to ensure the continued financial success of the organization while showing an ability to adapt to changing environments in this dynamic era of healthcare.

    A minimum of fifteen years of senior level health care financial management experience.
    Broad experience with a variety of health care institutions, and with issues outside of finance.
    Experience in an academic medical center setting.
    Experience in public accounting.
    Knowledge of managed care contracting and capitation.
    Knowledge of financial planning and health care financing.

    An advance degree in finance, business administration or health care administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
