    **Director/Capital Campaigns Job Description**

The National Aquarium seeks a Director/Capital Campaigns to lead its capital campaigns, advancing the organization's mission with high autonomy and impact. Reporting to the SVP/Chief Philanthropy Officer, this leader will work closely with the President/CEO, Board members, and volunteers to raise capital funds, build relationships, and chart the future of the Aquarium's ambitious capital campaigns.

This critical role will initially focus on the Dolphin Sanctuary capital campaign, aiming to secure $3 million in pledges and gifts within the first two years. Upon successful completion, the Director will transition to lead other capital campaigns for the National Aquarium.

The ideal candidate possesses demonstrated leadership and success in capital campaigns and major donor development, with a proven track record of closing significant gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and execute a seed capital campaign for the Dolphin Sanctuary with a phase one target of $3 million in pledges and gifts.
    • Create and implement a major gifts strategy, preparing solicitations of high-net-worth donor prospects.
    • Maintain a portfolio of major donor prospects, holding ultimate accountability for their cultivation, stewardship, retention, and upgrading.
    • Conduct detailed donor research, utilizing the Philanthropy team and outside consultants as needed.
    • Work closely with the Philanthropy team to track and maintain contact with donors and prospects, ensuring accurate database information management.
    • Develop collateral materials to support solicitations and communications with donors and prospects.
    • Lead weekly donor stewardship meetings, setting agendas and tracking action items for the CEO and volunteers.
    • Plan and execute occasional events in Baltimore and the Caribbean to support donor solicitations and campaign activities.

    Requirements:

    • Demonstrated passion for the National Aquarium's mission, vision, and values.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to collaborate effectively with staff, Board members, donors, volunteers, and prospects.
    • Eight or more years' experience in major gift fundraising, with a demonstrated understanding of strategic donor stewardship approaches.
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; master's degree desirable.
    • Working knowledge of prospect research processes, with capacity to perform unaided donor research when necessary.
    • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills, with sound judgment.
    • Ability to function as a collaborative team member with Aquarium peers and leaders.
    • Professional discretion regarding donor confidentiality and privacy.
    • Capacity to travel domestically and fulfill occasional night and weekend commitments.
