    Description

    Summary:

    Responsible for one or more lab sections (histology,microbiology, phlebotomy, etc.). Establishes goals, and schedulesand coordinates laboratory administration, including purchasing andmaintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies. Ensures that allactivities are in compliance with organization goals and applicableregulations.

    Responsibilities:


    • Responsible for all departmental and staff customerservice initiatives

    • This position will be key inimproving and maintaining associate morale and retention rates;decreasing turnover

    • Personnel – Responsible for themanagement (oversight) of all departmental associates

    •Performs decision-making processes regarding the hiring,disciplinary action, terminating of departmental associates

    • Will be responsible for overseeing associate evaluations;assuring that time and attendance is completed accurately;assisting with associate staffing/scheduling and PTO requests; willhelp oversee education, to ensure that all associate education isin compliance with best practice standards; will conduct timelyassociate communication to ensure associates are welleducated

    • Capital and Operating Expense – Will work incollaboration with Administration and Finance to prepare annualcapital and operational budgets

    • Will be responsiblefor maintaining expenses and revenue within the established fiscalyear budget for all departments under directorship

    •Reviews rates and procedure codes, supervises the processing,billing and review of laboratory testing

    • PerformanceImprovement and Quality Management – Responsible for monitoringand/or overseeing that all QC programs; including proficiencytesting, review and correction of deficiencies; responsible forcontinuous performance improvement; maintains total quality ofservice at acceptable levels

    • Responsible formanagement and operations within the Laboratory Service Line incollaboration with the Laboratory Medical Director and SystemDirector of Laboratory Services

    • Assure compliancewith appropriate accrediting agencies such as that CAP, AABB, CLIA,JCAHO, OSHA, etc

    • Maintains accurate statistics eithermanually or in the LIS to show productivity, performanceindicators, quality management, etc

    • Ensures that allequipment within the Laboratory is functioning properly and ensuresthat all personnel is educated on proper techniques of operation;verifies that all major equipment repairs have been accomplished;in collaboration with Administration, initiates equipment servicecontracts

    • Directly responsible for operational policyand procedure development for all related departments underdirectorship

    • Provides technical expertise regardingproblem solving for all related departments underdirectorship

    • Performs waived, moderate, and highcomplexity testing, when needed for all related departments underdirectorship

    • Serve as a laboratory representative ondesignated hospital committees as required i. e.: InfectionControl, Blood Utilization Committee, Quality Management, SafetyCommittee, etc

    Requirements:

    A. Education/Skills


    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in clinical laboratoryscience or medical laboratory technology from an accreditedinstitution or equivalent laboratory training and experiencemeeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation42CFR required

    B.Experience


    • Minimum of 3-5 yearsClinical Laboratory Experience in moderate/high complexity testingfor the specific section/area of responsibility preferred


    • Minimum 2 year of Supervisory experiencerequired

    C. Licenses, Registrations, orCertifications


    • Must possessCertification for MLS, MLT, MT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, orHEW/HHS.


    • If certification with an expirationdate is held, the certification must be maintained and keptcurrent.
