    Position Title: Scenic Supervisor

    Department: Scenery

    Position Summary

    The Scenic Supervisor is an integral part of the production team responsible for supervising the day-to-day production, development, and installation of theatrical scenery for all Tuacahn Productions.

    Applicants should be a well-rounded technical theatre professional with a concentration in Scenic Fabrication. Tuacahn strives to achieve and consistently advance the level of creative, captivating and inspiring theatrical entertainment that our audiences have grown to love, and this position is integral in accomplishing that goal.

    Reporting directly to the Technical Director this position directs and supervises numerous scenic personnel working in supervisory collaboration with TD, ATD, and lead Scenic Artists to achieve the designer's vision.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and manage the flow of scenery from conception to completion. Generate, manage shop schedules, staff calendars, and build estimates. Alongside the TD and ATD work with designers, directors, and production management to maximize the artistic impact of financial resources. Evaluate technical designs, generate/help estimate labor, materials
    • Manage and participate, as necessary, in changeovers, technical rehearsals, and previews to manage technical scenic needs, monitor and aid staff, and collaborate with other shops (Properties, Audio/Video, Lighting, Special Effects)
    • Read rehearsal and show reports, schedules, and calendars. Follow-up on applicable details or notes and communicate information to other supervisors and staff as appropriate including Stage Management.
    • Make suggestions and share ideas to solve problems, improve product, and facilitate changes.
    • Educate and supervise shop production staff and volunteers on the safe use of tools and machinery.
    • Monitor and maintain inventory of scene shop tools, equipment, and PPE. Monitor and supervise all shop facility work.
    • Procure all build materials and supplies.
    • Uphold Tuacahn's production department policy and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
    • Assist in set up and strike of all Tuacahn productions.
    • Participate in the hiring process of shop fabrication staff (when necessary).
    • Operate in a safe and professional manner at all times. Maintain a positive and collaborative attitude at all times
    • Additional assignments as required for all Tuacahn productions.

    Required Qualifications

    • Knowledge and passion for live theater. Bachelor's degree in technical theatre or 5+ years of applicable professional experience working in a similar supervisory role, in a professional dance, music and/or theatre company.
    • Proven working knowledge of theatrical scenic construction techniques, technologies and strong experience with industry standard rigging practices. Basic understanding of scenic automation types, electrical knowledge, and practical skill. Valid Driver's License
    • Excellent Communication skills
    • Self-motivated, organized and detail oriented
    • Demonstrated leadership skills, experience working with designers and a strong understanding of other areas of production. Proficiently read and comprehend technical scenic drafting.

    Skills/Abilities

    • Ability to work in an efficient and time sensitive environment
    • Ability to manage crews in multiple spaces
    • Ability to work occasional weekends and nights is a must
    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift heavy objects.
    • OSHA 10 Required/Provided, Industry Standard Workplace Safety
    • Mechanical Experience: Auto, Small Engine, Hydraulics, Pneumatics (preferred)
    • CDL Trucking and Trailers (preferred)
    • CNC Operation (preferred)
    • Machine Operation experience Forklift, Tele-handler, Excavator, and Man Lifts (preferred)

    Other Details:

    2024 Season shows include Frozen, Anastasia, Jersey Boys, Ring of Fire, and A Christmas Carol.

    Dates: Full-Time Year-Around

    Salary: $55,000.00-$60,000.00
