    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Houston's Health Department is seeking a professional Nutritionist to perform the following duties:
    • Develops and provides nutritional health care education and consultation to health department clients and their families and the community
    • Identifies patient eligibility for social service programs; refers patient to proper social service agency
    • Develop and conduct nutrition classes and programs
    • Provide public health nutrition services for non-family group, e.g., childcare centers, schools, nursing homes, industry, etc.
    • Compiles and maintains statistical site and patient information; may prepare reports as directed
    • Distribute nutritional information to patients, families and the community
    • Maintain supply inventory and equipment maintenance
    WORKING CONDITIONSThe position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or a related field.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSNo experience is required.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    Valid Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

    PREFERENCES

    **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

    WIC Experience preferred.

    Pay Grade 14
    SALARY INFORMATION GRANT FUND POSITIONGrants & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, the employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications and the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
