    The SP+ Information Security team plays a crucial role in safeguarding our digital assets and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our systems and data. As an Information Security Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to various aspects of Information Security within our organization. The focus of this position will be ensuring the secure operations of SP+ corporate information systems, servers, applications and network infrastructure components. Under the guidance of our Information Security Operations team, you will assist in protecting our systems and data from potential threats and vulnerabilities. The Information Security Intern role will support Information Security initiatives and compliance efforts through the monitoring, analyzing, auditing and implementation of technical and administrative security control components. This opportunity also presents the candidate with visibility, access, administration and collaboration into core security team tools, applications and systems to assist the overall mission of policy governance, risk management and associated regulatory compliance obligations.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM-5:00 PM CST

    Responsibilities


    What you'll do

    • Assist in the monitoring, analyzing and remediating of security alerts, events, incidents and log data originating from various Information Security monitoring tools
    • Participate in vulnerability assessments, patching schedules, and penetration testing activities to help drive technical control compliance and standards adherence
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of security policies, baseline configurations, standard operating procedures and system auditing guidelines
    • Assist in the configuration and maintenance of security tools and systems as it relates to identity & access management, privileged access management, managed detection and response, data privacy and system event management
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and remediate security gaps.
    • Assist and support ongoing cloud environment initiatives by establishing baseline requirements, configuration standards, account management best practices, audit functions and associated cloud native technologies
    • Assist in the development of cloud security best practices to support the company's security strategy for multi-tier architectures and environments
    • Use existing information security tool sets to monitor networks and their components (firewalls, routers, access points, computers, servers) for security related events and/or vulnerabilities that could expose the organization to excessive risk.
    • Support incident response investigation, triage and remediation efforts as needed.
    • Stay updated on the latest security trends, threats and technologies.

    Qualifications


    What you need

    • Currently pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Strong interest in and passion for Information Security and Information Technology
    • Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
    • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
    • Knowledge of common security tools and technologies (firewalls, SIEM, antivirus, etc.) is a plus.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
    • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment.
