    Job Summary

    Operates the x-ray machine, develops film, prepares patient room, equipment, supplies and medications; as well as laboratory tests as ordered by the physician/nurse practitioner.

    Performs the tests on patients from newborns to the elderly.

    The Radiologic Technologist assists the Physician and Nurse Practitioner in taking patient histories and preparing patients from newborns to the elderly for examination as well as assisting with the exam as requested.

    Will perform duties consistent with the needs of the communities served, in a manner that reflects the physical, psychological and spiritual healing ministry of Christ.

    Qualifications

    Education:
    Must be a Registered Radiologic Technologist in good standing with the American Registry of Radiological Technologists. Must hold a current license with the State of Indiana as a Diagnostic x-ray machine operator. Two (2) years clinical experience. Must be CPR certified (within 6 months of hire date).


    Training:
    Three months


    Experience:
    One to two years experience in hospital radiology department.

    Performance Requirements

    Responsibility:
    All radiographic and laboratory services/ functions for the office. Prepares x-ray room, equipment, and materials as needed for patients.

    Prepares the patient for x-ray explains procedures, assists patient to table, positions patient and assist patient at the end of procedures.

    Follows prescribed techniques in administrating general and specific x-rays.

    Adjusts equipment; determines proper voltage, current, and desired exposure time; arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient; adjusts lead shield; and selects proper film.

    Also performs CLIA waived tests and quality assurance/controls - urinalysis, occult blood stool tests, pregnancy tests, HemoSite, strep, etc. Also prepares specimens for courier.


    Assists patients to exam rooms, medical histories, vital signs, assistance with exams/ procedures, assist with medical supply inventories, scheduling procedures and referrals.

    Administers injections, medications, immunizations except PPD, dresses wounds/ incisions and communicates provider's instructions to patients.

    Responsible for cleaning treatment rooms between patients and at the end of the day and the proper cleaning and storage of all equipment used in patient's treatment.

    Responsible for the disposal of all toxic waste in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Assists with other jobs as requested.

    In some cases, little supervision given, with routine decision making. Some travel required to provide appropriate coverage to other offices.


    Special Demands:
    Internal contacts with staff, patients and family members. External contacts with other physicians, their office personnel, insurance companies, hospital staff, as well as patients an their families.

    Tactfulness, judgment, courteousness, patience and the ability to work cooperatively with others required on an ongoing basis to adequately perform in this job.

    Maintains confidentiality, discusses patient data or other related work information only with authorized personnel or physicians in appropriate setting. Responsible for participation and compliance of departmental customer services plan and goals.

    Physical Demands:
    Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and must be able to work irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases, toxic chemicals and/or fumes, and potentially dangerous body fluids.

    • Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials cleans and disinfects x-ray equipment. Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at the end of procedure. Develops film in accordance with photographic techniques and maintains stock supplies for both lab and x-ray. (15%)
    • Performs general nursing care to patients. Assists patients to exam rooms, takes medical histories, vital signs, preparation of patients for exams and/or procedures. Assists physician and/or Nurse Practitioner as directed. Screens patients for their presenting complaint and records vital signs for each visit. (10%)
    • Administers prescribed injections and/or medications as directed by Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner and in accordance with nursing standards. Instructs patients in collection of patient samples for tests. Performs CLIA waived tests including quality controls. Performs lab draws as requested by providers in office. Responsible for all outpatient services including injections, labs and blood pressure checks. (25%)
    • Responsible for scheduling all referrals/procedures and maintaining knowledge of insurance requirements and referral process for other offices. Assists with appointment bookings and ensures preference is given to patients with emergent conditions. Maintains a timely flow of patients during treatment hours. (50%)
    • Answers medically related patient telephone calls, make patient call backs, call refills or new prescriptions, instructs patients and families regarding medications and treatments, as needed. Assists receptionist and clinical assistant as necessary. (10%)
