    ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities, and overall project management. We are locally owned, and we are always in search of talented, hardworking individuals for the position of Pipefitter/Pipelayer.

    Job Summary

    Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipes for storm or sanitation sewers, drains and water mains. Ensures ground is prepped and trenches dug out for pipes. Align pipes and seals joints together.


    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Responsible for assembling, connecting, and constructing pipes for storm or sanitation sewers, drains and water mains.
    • Applying knowledge of system operation to select the most suitable pipe type and size.
    • Cutting pipes using handheld and power tools like hammer and chisel, cutting torch, pipe cutter, and pipe cutting machine.
    • According to specifications, install support equipment like hangers, brackets, pneumatic equipment, and hydraulic cylinders.
    • Joining pipes using threads, soldering, brazing, or cemented connections.
    • Inspecting piping systems and machinery to detect machinery malfunctions.
    • Operating material movement machinery to lift pipes, support equipment, and heavy machinery.
    • Align pipes and seals joints together.
    • Inspect the worksite to ensure no obstructions to the pipe and if there are any holes or interference, repair or modify the design.
    • Dig trenches with trenching tools and cover pipes once installed.
    • Responsible for laying piping to carry a variety of different utilities.
    • Measure the surrounding areas where the pipes are to be installed and cut the pipes to match areas.
    • Use tamping machines.
    • Knowledge of trench shoring and other safety protocols.


    Requirements

    • 2+ yrs. of previous experience with pipefitting and/or pipe laying, in the construction industry.
    • Must be able to follow instructions and comply with our Safety rules and Procedures.
    • Must have working knowledge of all tools, materials and machinery needed to perform the job.
    • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written or oral instructions.
    • Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures.

    Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

    • Must be work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements, heat/cold temperatures, wind, rain, blowing dust.
    • Able to work around moving equipment and tolerate loud noise levels.
    • Ability to perform intense manual labor.
    • Bend and stoop repeatedly throughout the day.
    • Able to push, pull and lift 50+lbs.
    • Able to walk and stand for long periods of time.
    • Able to walk on rough, rocky and uneven surfaces at construction sites.

    Additional Qualifying Factors

    As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening. If applicable to the contract, you may also be required to submit through a background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work and must have a valid driver's license at time of application.
