    Description

    Summary

    The Licensed Practical Nurse - Dialysis carries out more specialized patient care duties in the Omaha VA Dialysis Center. This includes the incorporation of current patient care data in actively contributing to the development of the patient's overall health plan and in carrying out assigned nursing interventions. The LPN is involved to a greater degree in the development and modification of treatment plans for the Dialysis patient.

    Duties

    Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assists RN and /or MD/DO to appropriately prioritize overall patient care needs and adjusts plans for care delivery.
  • Performs hemodialysis treatment to include initiation, termination by various dialysis accesses.
  • Prepares the equipment for treatment to include set up of extracorporeal circuit, safety equipment testing, time out process proper to initiation of hemodialysis.
  • Administers prescribed medications/treatments according to established policies/procedures and records administration and patient's response to medications received.
  • Serves as a mentor to other nursing staff in the application of more complex technology, effectively guiding and directing their continuing practice in these areas.
  • Provides leadership in assisting other staff improve and advance their nursing practice.
    • Work Schedule : Shifts may include 5:00am-3:30pm, Monday-Saturday. Rotate Saturdays and Holidays.

    Additional Pay:
  • Shift Differential - 10% of basic pay for work performed during regularly scheduled hours between 6pm and 6am.
  • Weekend Premium - 25% of basic pay for work performed between the hours of midnight Friday and midnight Sunday. This includes continuous service connected to work performed during these hours.
  • Holiday Pay - 2 times basic hourly rate for regularly scheduled, non-overtime work on a designated holiday.
