- Uphold the YMCA of Montclair commitment to caring for individuals and families, with a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility and basic principles of honesty, integrity, and a sincere commitment to our team members and our members.
- Ensure areas are clean, free of hazards and that the equipment is operational.
- Greet all participants and/or family members in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Know the schedules and who is permitted to play in the gym and what times.
- Always be enthusiastic and interact with the participants in conversation and activities.
- Be alert to what all children/youth/adults are always doing to ensure safety, proper use of equipment and that they are engaged and happy.
- Be alert to inappropriate behavior including language and address it immediately with the individual(s)
- Maintain "order" regarding behavior and sharing of space.
- Put equipment away at the completion of each time frame.
- Ensure that participants are not leaving the area with YMCA equipment.
- Be willing to assist in other areas when no youth are present to look after them.
- Demonstrate and model the YMCA's four core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, & Responsibility.
- Exhibit personal and professional behavior in a manner consistent with the best interest of the YMCA.
- Cooperate, work effectively and congenially with all YMCA staff members, volunteers, and members of the Association.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
- Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhered to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.

- Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures.

Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Sports Director, the Gym Instructor is responsible for the gym and the equipment as well as following the daily schedule of specific activities.

This work requires the following physical activities: playing games (standing & sitting) bending, kneeling, walking, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
COMPANY BENEFITS:
Benefits include complimentary YMCA membership; accrued PTO; enrollment in the Y's retirement program (must complete 1000 hours within 2 years of service) with 12% of salary contributed by the Y; a rewarding career with professional growth and advancement opportunities; a challenging and fun work environment with creative and talented individuals.
HOURLY PAY RATE: $16.13 to $18.00.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday to Friday: 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
