    Closing Date: 5/5/2024 11:59 PM CentralPOSITION SUMMARY Works under the direction of the Director of Utilities. Some training and direction will be provided by operators and skilled utility workers. Must be able to follow instructions and work independently. Performs a variety of work from manual labor to operation of light to moderate equipment in the maintenance and repair of city facilities such as water system, sewer system, storm water, streets, building, and ground maintenance.
    This position is a Summer Internship working months June
    • August ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Projects and work assignments vary by department and are designed to give the Intern a broad, positive experience in municipal government.

    Through the City's internship program, Interns can:

    Enhance your resumeInvestigate your own personal interest and goalsExpand your knowledge of local governmentNetwork with government professionalsSome assignments may include:Assists with maintenance and operations of water meters, valves, manholesLocating and repairing broken water and sewer linesPerforms water meter maintenance and repairInspects and performs routine maintenance and repair on all equipment assignedPerforms inspections of grounds, facilities, park areas, vehiclesDocuments work orders and records work activitiesClean and paint fire hydrantsPrune trees in ROWMaintains site or equipment by providing basic repairs and cleaningInvestigates utility service complaints and researches issuesInvestigates and troubleshoots meter issues for tampering or other technical problemsCommunicates with the residents to assure that work orders are completePerforms other duties as assigned REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Must be at least 16 years of ageParent or legal guardian must provide written authorization to begin working if under the age of 18Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:Criminal background check Controlled substance screeningEmployees are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in order to receive benefits.

    CREDIT UNION:
    Available through the Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union.

    EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP):Available through United Behavioral Health, provides assistance for employees and their immediate family members in the event of an emotional, family, legal, medical, substance abuse and/or financial problem.

    The EAP is available at no cost to the employee.


    EMPLOYEE AWARDS LUNCHEON:

    WORKERS' COMPENSATION:
    All employees are covered under the Texas Workers' Compensation Insurance program through the Texas Municipal League. Eligibility for benefits is automatic and effective on the date of hire.
