The Fairfax-Falls Church CSB is a large public behavioral health care system that serves all of Fairfax County in Northern Virginia and serves approximately 24,000 clients per year. The CSB provides a comprehensive array of services for children and adults with severe psychiatric mental illness/substance use disorder (SPMI/SUD), and/or substance use disorders and/or intellectual disabilities.

These services include:

24-hour residential crises stabilization

24-hour, 7 days per week emergency services

Partial hospitalization

Outpatient and case management

Medical dDetox

Medication assisted treatment of opioid addition including Suboxone induction

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)/homeless outreach

Short- and long-term residential treatment for co-occurring disorders

Jail diversion

ForensicsThe CSB has a large medical staff that includes 9 full-time Nurse Practitioners, 35 full-time equivalent Psychiatrists, primary care providers, Nurses (LPN, RN CNS), and a Physician Assistant.

Location: This position will be at the South County Building in Alexandria and at Merrifield Center in Fairfax.

Illustrative Duties

Provides services in consultation and collaboration with a licensed patient care team physician as part of a patient care team.

Performs physical examinations and records findings in clients' records;

Performs orders and interprets laboratory work and diagnostic procedures;

Assesses state of clients' health by obtaining medical, psychological and social histories;

Confers with physicians on abnormal results requiring physician's intervention;

Develops treatment plans, including prescribing medications, reviewing plans with clients to assess level of understanding;

Monitors treatments as required;

Refers clients to other health care providers;

Provides health education, counseling and guidance to clients and families;

Develops health education materials;

Develops and presents various training and orientation programs for nursing personnel, health care providers and other agency staff members.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of public health nurse practitioner/medical theory and practice;

Knowledge of various laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;

Knowledge of effects of prescribed medications and when their usage is indicated;

Ability to obtain histories and perform physical examinations, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures;

Ability to assess medical records and results of tests;

Ability to communicate effectively with clients, medical professionals, health care professionals and citizens.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing; plus a master's degree in nursing as a clinical nurse practitioner; depending upon area of assignment, may require one year of experience as a certified nurse practitioner.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Licensed to practice as a nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has obtained national certification as a nurse practitioner.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and sanction screening to the satisfaction of the employer. A TB screening upon hire and annually thereafter. Requires a National Provider Identifier.

This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working with clients who have serious mental illnesses/substance use disorders in a community setting.

Experience in Medication Assisted Treatment of Substance Use Disorders, including Opioids/Opiates.

Experiencing working with the youth.

Experience working with an electronic medical record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is located in general office. Ability to independently transport self and fulfill duties at other sites; to observe, process, and document clinical information; access/input/retrieve computer data; use medical equipment; and administer injections. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

Panel Interview and may include a practical exercise.
