    Certified Surgical Technologist Job Description

    Work Hours: 6:30 am - 5:00 pm

    Number of Operating Rooms: 6

    Number of Surgeries per Day/Month: Approximately 350

    Interview Process:

    1. Initial Phone Interview:
      • Conducted with the Administrator and Director of Nursing.
    2. On-Site Interview:
      • If possible, a second interview will be held on-site with the Administrator and Director of Nursing.

    Job Specific Requirements:

    • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of surgical procedures and the role of a scrub tech.
    • Proficient in the use of surgical equipment within the operating room environment.
    • Executes surgical scrub technician duties before, during, and after surgical procedures.
    • Prepares supplies, equipment, instruments, and other necessary items for scheduled surgeries.
    • Attends safety training programs and follows exposure control plans.
    • Maintains and updates instrument cards, tray lists, and surgeon preference cards.
    • Upholds sterile techniques and reports any observed or suspected breaks.
    • Shows respect for the dignity of patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
    • Fosters effective working relations within the team to meet goals and objectives.
    • Ensures accurate documentation related to sterilization records, cleaning forms, and logs.

    Degree and Certification Requirements:

    • Required:
      • GED or High School diploma.
      • One-year certificate from college or technical school; or equivalent experience.
      • CPR certification.
      • NBSTSA certified Surgical Technician or equivalent certification.

    Machines/Equipment Used:

    • Operating room instrumentation, video equipment, power equipment, lasers, and smoke evacuators.
    • Microscopes, OR beds, sterilization equipment, and clinical equipment for patient care.
    • Office equipment: computers, copy machines, telephones, public address system, and fax machine.

    Role Overview:

    Surgical Technologists work under surgeon supervision, ensuring the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. Their responsibilities include maintaining a safe operating room environment, ensuring proper equipment functionality, and maximizing patient safety during surgical procedures.
