Job description
Responsible for conductingactivepatrollingofassigned area, zone, or serve and assist the general public with non-criminal calls. Incumbent must run tags and licenseplatenumbers; respond totrafficaccidents and crashes; and investigate non-policeaction and rescue calls. Duties also include testifying at trials, hearings, grandjuries ordepositions and preparing reports, affidavits, and legal documents. This position assists during times of natural disasters (i.e. hurricanes, fires) and provides support during traffic escorts that may require a modified schedule including nights and/or weekends to accommodate agency response requirements. PSA's report directly to and work at the direction of the PSA Sergeant.Duties
Responds to and investigates traffic collisions, road obstructions, reports of abandoned vehicles, and assists motorist/citizens in various capacities, including children/animals locked in vehicles, disabled vehicles, missing person(s) etc.
Provides traffic control for incidents and events that require traffic control.
Assists with required patrols and tasking related to natural disasters in accordance with agency policies.
Provides traffic escorts during funeral processions, parades, and other special details as directed.
Assesses injuries and administersappropriate first aid to injured person, requesting additional medical assistance if necessary in accordance with agency policies.
Administers CPR until medical personnel arrive on scene and take command of the situation.Inspects the vehicle prior to shift to ensure that the vehicle is safe to operate and all emergency equipment is operational.
Reports any safety hazards or traffic engineering problems occurring at any crossing in their area of responsibility to the appropriate supervisor in accordance with agency policy and procedures and initiates immediate remedial action as warranted to preserve the safety of the pedestrians and motorists in the area.
Provides assistance with school crossings, as needed.Runs vehicle tags/plates to determine if thetag is valid and registration is current.
Responds to hazmat spills, assessesthe situation, and requests additional or specialized assistance/equipment in accordance with agency policies, state and OSHA regulations.
Runs/reviewsNCIC/FCIC/DAVID inquiries to standards mandated by state / federal authorities.Communicates with business representatives and/or the public regarding parking problems, issues, and violations.
Positions vehicle in a safemanner/location and removes hazards/objects from the roadway.
Receives evidence/property andensures that all required information, including as applicable, the member's signature, date, ID Number and/or time are recorded on the package label pursuant to agency policy.
Responds to traffic accidents/crashesand upon arrival immediately assess the situation and requests appropriate assistance as necessary (fire, EMT, etc.) in accordance with agency policy and procedure manual.
Directs traffic in and around congested,secure,accident,orhazardousareasin accordance with agencypolicies.Enters and retrieves suspect / vehicle / dispatch / service call information from the mobile computer.
Responds to calls forassistance, providing the requesting unit with the assistance required to safely resolve the situation in accordance with agencies policies.
Promotes public safety in patrol areas consistent with agency policies by conducting routine active patrolling of assigned zones/ areas/beats observing all suspicious activities / subjects.
Responds to reports of abandoned property to take possession of said property with the exception of drug paraphernalia.Provides quick, effective, courteous, and appropriate assistance on all non-police action calls (stranded motorist).
Notifies medical or other assistance/agencies as required in accordance with agency policy.
Reviews and accurately records BOLO information and becomes familiar with the facts and the subject of each BOLO.
Assesses the situation, rescuing or assisting in the rescue of trapped persons or persons requiring assistance while maintaining safety procedures for all involved in accordance with agency policies.
Testifies at trials, hearings, grand juries, and depositions, and answers all questions in a truthful, and impartial manner without volunteering additional information other than that requested in accordance with agency policies.
Collects complete and accurate information and prepares clear, concise reports, supplemental reports and/or court petitions/affidavits (if applicable) in accordance with agency policy and state and/or federal statutes.
Moves temporary signage trailers (Programmable message, radar, LPR) around the county, as needed.Workseffectivelywithcolleaguesandother agencypersonnelinordertomaximizeworkareaoutput and services consistent with agencypolicies.
Providesaccurateandcomplete information and coaches new members, members of other agencies and/or volunteers in order to ensure task performance is to standard and in accordance with agency policies.
Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.Participates in cross-training with other co-workers; assists those co-workers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
Reports identified or potential maintenance, safety, and/or non-compliance findings, hazards, and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.Timely completes all assignments, special projects, and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed, adhering to applicable agency policies.
Adheres to leave and attendance policies, including punctual arrival and completing full shifts.
Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents, reports overtime hours worked, and timely submits timesheet, attendance, and leave requests.
Regularly checks assigned mailbox, phone calls, PowerDMS, and email messages, responding promptly and professionally.Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
Responds to supervision, guidance, direction, and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
Conducts themselves in a polite, helpful, courteous, ethical, and professional manner, abiding by the established code of ethics, and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
Demonstrates an understanding, consideration, and respect of cultural, religious, and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.Actively participate in job-specific training.
Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturer's specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.

Minimum Education, Experience and Requirements:
High school degree or its equivalent required.
Flexibility in work schedule based on varying agency requirements
Proficient in Microsoft office products
Speak and understand the English language
Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible
Internal candidates must have completed applicable CCSO FTEP requirements

Pass agency training in vehicle backing and trailering.
Supplemental Information
Salary is negotiable for full-time positions prior to initial hire, if requested, based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade.
