Description

A Software Engineer II demonstrates an extensive JAVA/C++ object-oriented programming skills applied to department and customer objectives and requirements. Work with quality assurance, customer service, software design, software engineers, and senior managers to develop new system features and maintain existing customer code base keeping to current system and industry requirements. Project manages enhancements of system as necessary. This position also requires the flexibility to act autonomously at all times while adhering to overall department and company policies and procedures.

What you will be doing:

• Assists in project management enhancements of system as necessary.
• Meets difficult technical challenges and tight deadlines.
• Determines or coordinates purchasing requirements for programs or enhancements.
• Researches, designs and develops system software/firmware in conjunction with NAMB hardware product development.
• Applies strong C, C++, Java Developer experience to code new and enhanced development objectives; analyze objectives and problems specified by engineers and/or designers.
• Coordinates the testing scripts, documentation, and deployment schedule with the QA, Training and Documentation departments.
• Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt it to new hardware or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance.
• Analyze information to determine, recommend and plan installation of a new system or modification of an existing system.
• Consult with engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop specifications and performance requirements and resolve customer problems.
• Direct software programming and development of documentation.
• Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.
• Confer with data processing and project managers to obtain information on limitations and capabilities for data processing projects.
• Consult with customers or other departments on project status, proposals and technical issues such as software system design and maintenance.
• Must have a strong understanding of object-oriented code structure since the majority of the code reviewed will not be your own.
• Contacts customers, as necessary, to attain feedback of stability and reliability of systems software.
• Creates and maintains solid customer relations and feedback.
• Work close with level one customer support to troubleshoot, identify, and fix any issues within the application code.
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses client issues and resolve in efficient and timely manner.
• Reports any discrepancies, changes or recommendations, and/or problems for resolution to senior management.
• Coordinate installation plan of Systems Software/Firmware.
• Prepare reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities and status.
• May perform other duties as assigned including participation/leadership of cross-functional initiatives.
• Must be able to obtain and retain gaming licensure.

Qualifications

What we want you to have:

• BSEE or BSCE from a four-year college or university (Computer Sciences, Engineering, or related field), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two to four years or more experience as object oriented programmer. High degree of knowledge and understanding of computer systems, Java, C++, C, JDBC, Oracle, or other RDBMS, SQLPlus, Android API, Mobile App development, networking, and SAS protocols. Casino Gaming or Lottery System experience a plus.
• Intermediate and above level understanding and usage of Microsoft Office products. Must be able to communicate professionally and efficiently (verbal and written) with all levels of the business. Must be able to obtain and retain gaming licensure.
• High degree of knowledge and understanding of computer systems, Java, C++, C, JDBC, Oracle, or other RDBMS, SQLPlus, Android API, Mobile App development, networking, and SAS protocols. Casino Gaming or Lottery System experience a plus.
• Ability to obtain licensing, gaming card, or other certifications required by gaming regulations or jurisdictions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
