Marine Electrician

Must have knowledge and experience to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain various electrical systems, controls and equipment either on board vessels or in shipyard facilities.

An electrician must be familiar with IEEE45 rules and regulations pertaining to shipboard power, distribution and control wiring involving the proper installation of AC and DC circuits.

Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and all marine vessels.
Repair/Replace cables and connectors.

Work involves participating in the installation, maintenance and repair of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting and alarm circuits.

Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical and electronic equipment and cables.
Disconnecting and reconnecting motors and electrical equipment.
Install and connect facility lighting and equipment circuits using conduit, hangers, and building wire.

Install motor controllers, switch boxes, circuit breakers, panels, feeder cables, wireways, supports, and wires for power and lighting systems.

Switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits.
Familiar with a variety of engine room and ship's electrical systems.
Identify various cables by cable types, number of conductors and wire size.

Removal and installation of cables found overhead (ceiling), along a bulkhead (wall) or underneath deck (floor) cable runs may range from a few feet to more than a thousand feet.

Assistance during the cable runs varies according to the cable size, length of the run, and physical difficulty.
Board ships via stairs, ladders, and gangways with tool bags and needed equipment.
