    ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
    Rotating schedule; either 8:00 am - 5:00 pm or 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, any other shifts assigned. Must be able to work holidays and weekends.

    Responsibilities

    Provide animal control work for the City of Corpus Christi. Involves maintaining the shelter and providing excellent care to the animals housed within.

    Carry out daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use independent judgment and training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations.

    Performs technical and routine animal care and related duties at the city animal shelter. The work involved giving vaccinations, drawing blood, examining animals, and documentation/data entry. Cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining animal kennel areas. Performing related shelter duties.

    Clean kennels, feed animals and perform related housekeeping duties.

    Performs shelter duties including taking reports from the public, receiving animals brought into the shelter, preparing adoption paperwork, reclaiming animals to their owners, and transporting animals to veterinarians.

    Perform humane education at the shelter to citizens. Handles animals and makes determinations regarding their disposition. Takes complaints and relays information to animal control officers. Maintains proper inventory levels of cleaning and other supplies. Performs landscaping duties to maintain shelter grounds. Performs routine equipment maintenance. Make recommendations for ordering supplies. Receives, examines, and vaccinates animals. Administers medicines, conducts health exams and administers first-aid when necessary. Maintains and updates data files with pertinent information on animal intake, health information etc. on animals received and in the shelter. Assist in humane euthanasia of animals in a safe humane manner as authorized by supervisor. Educate the public on proper animal care, wildlife problems, and animal control regulations. Prepare and maintained necessary reports and records.

    Communicates and problem solves in the highest professional manner with citizens, businesses, rescues, law enforcement, ordinance enforcement, and all other individuals.


    The work is regularly active with periods of heavy exertion, and is performed in office and outdoor settings in varying weather conditions.

    Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 75 pounds; climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding; bend, kneel, crouch and crawl; reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; feel the size, shape and temperature of items; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards.

    The work requires the ability to speak normally, to use normal or aided vision and hearing, and to detect odors.

    Qualifications

    Requires a High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of six (6) months experience. A valid driver's license is required at time of application and hire.

    Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

    Basis of Rating

    Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

    Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.

    This position is classified as Safety Sensitive.

    All employees in safety sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing, pursuant to City policy, HR 15.0 Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
