    Primary Job Function:

    The Reynoldsburg City Schools Head Varsity Football Coach is responsible for instructing and coaching student athletes in the fundamentals of football and develop an appreciation of the sport. The Head Varsity football coach will demonstrate techniques and methods of participation to prepare them for athletic competition.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Pupil Activity Permit (ODE Certification)
    • Successful completion of all ODE, OHSAA, and District required trainings
    • Passing of the required BCI/ FBI background check
    • Follow RCS Board policies
    • Complete a full season of the sport
    • Maintain professional, ethical and suitable conduct
    • Communicate effectively with students, parents, Athletic Director, administration, and all other stakeholders
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Primary functions may include the following duties, responsibilities, skills, abilities, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.
    • Instruct/ coach and support student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training for them to realize a degree of individual and team success
    • Lead, instruct/ coach in a manner that embodies, creates, and enhances ethical and moral values, pride of accomplishment, good sportsmanship, self-discipline, self-confidence and teamwork
    • Develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice times to provide both individual and team development
    • Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, equipment, and performance principles
    • Monitor academic eligibility of student athletes
    • Assess player skills and assign positions accordingly
    • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams to develop game strategies
    • Coordinate travel arrangements
    • Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance
    • Hire, supervise, and work with extended coaching staff
    • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records
    • Meet with parents/ guardians as necessary regarding the athletic performance of their student
    • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program
    • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness
    • Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas (RCS, OHSAA, NCAA, NAIA)
    • Knowledge of industry best practices
    • Skilled at effective verbal and written communication
    • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
    • Skilled in collaboration and decision-making, seeking consensus whenever possible
    • Skilled in conflict resolution
    • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Ability to "think outside the box"
    • Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas
    • Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
    • Ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures
    • Ability to promote positive staff morale
    • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

    Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
    • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with others. The employee is required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.
    • Working Conditions - The employee in this position may experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. The employee may also be required to interact with unruly children.
    • Driving Requirement - This position may require driving.
