    Join our team as the Assistant City Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in overseeing operations and executing activities within the Engineering Division, which includes Traffic Engineering and Streets sections.

    Reporting directly to the City Engineer, you'll serve as the second-in-command within the division, contributing to the development and maintenance of essential infrastructure for our community.

    Applications will be screened.

    Those qualified will be invited to participate in an oral interview. Candidates must successfully pass by 70% or better in order to proceed in the process.

    Act as Design Engineer and Project Manager for City Public Improvement Projects.

    Assist the City Engineer in managing and operating City roads, bridges, traffic control systems, sidewalks, and utility placement.

    Manage activities within the Traffic Engineering and Engineering sections, including preparation of construction plans, inspection, and construction management.

    Directly supervise T raffic Maintenance and Engineering Section

    employees, handling scheduling, work assignments, evaluations, and discipline.

    Manage and oversee work products of consulting engineers and architects for City and Federal Aid projects.

    Interpret complex technical engineering design/plan information for citizens and City officials.

    Administer records of City utilities, maps, and bridge inspections.

    Develop traffic policies and guidelines for proper traffic control in our city.

    Coordinate pre-development meetings with developers to ensure compliance with City requirements.

    Provide engineering designs and cost estimates for public works projects.

    Work with Streets Foreman and Traffic Maintenance Foreman to oversee daily maintenance activities and large projects.

    Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering preferred.
    Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Michigan or ability to obtain within 24 months.
    Minimum three years' progressive design experience in municipal engineering projects.
    Three years' progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a union environment.
    Proficient knowledge of civil, mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and utility engineering principles and practices.
    Proficient knowledge of traffic engineering operations and maintenance procedures.
    Familiarity with Federal, State, and local codes and ordinances related to civil engineering.
    Skill in preparing technical reports and evaluations of engineering problems.
    Ability to effectively plan, schedule, and direct personnel and public works contractors.
    Basic accounting knowledge.
    Proficiency in software such as Word, Excel, AutoDesk, Synchro, Simtraffic, FieldManager, MERL, and Roadsoft.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.
