    Position Overview:

    The College & Career Counselor plays a pivotal role in guiding high school students through the complex process of college and career planning. This individual provides comprehensive counseling services to students, empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their academic and professional futures. The College & Career Counselor collaborates with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to facilitate successful transitions from high school to higher education, the military, entrepreneurship, or the workforce.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Certification: Valid state certification or licensure as a school counselor
    • Experience:
      • Prior experience working as a college counselor, career advisor, or school counselor preferred.
      • Knowledge of college and military admissions processes, financial aid options, and career development resources.
    • Interpersonal Skills:
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, and community partners.
      • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse student populations.
    • Organizational Skills:
      • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records and documentation.
    • Technology Proficiency:
      • Proficient in using educational software, online resources, and digital tools for counseling and information dissemination.
      • Familiarity with student information systems and database management is preferred.
    • Ethical Standards:
      • Adherence to ethical guidelines and confidentiality protocols in counseling practices.
      • Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in college and career services.
    Key Responsibilities:
    • College Guidance:
      • Assist students in exploring various college options based on their interests, academic strengths, and career goals.
      • Provide guidance on the college application process, including essay writing, resume building, and interview preparation.
      • Organize college visits, information sessions, and workshops to familiarize students with different institutions and admission requirements.
      • Help students navigate financial aid opportunities, scholarships, and grants.
      • Provide connections and participation in CTE PLCs to facilitate communication for programming around careers
    • Career Counseling:
      • Conduct career assessments and aptitude tests to help students identify suitable career paths.
      • Offer personalized career counseling sessions to discuss individual strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
      • Use school-wide resources to support program offerings within the Career Technical Education programming.
      • Facilitate job shadowing opportunities, internships, and career exploration programs to expose students to various professions.
      • Provide guidance on developing job-search skills, resume writing, and interview techniques.
      • Facilitate ASVAB testing and set up test prep opportunities for students
    • Educational Planning:
      • Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure students are on track to meet graduation requirements and fulfill college entrance prerequisites.
      • Assist students in selecting appropriate courses, extracurricular activities, and enrichment programs to enhance their academic and personal growth.
      • Advocate for students with learning challenges or special needs to ensure they receive necessary accommodations and support services.
    • Community Engagement:
      • Forge partnerships with colleges, universities, employers, and community organizations to expand resources and opportunities for students.
      • Organize college fairs, career expos, and networking events to connect students with representatives from various educational institutions and industries.
      • Maintain a database of relevant resources, including scholarship opportunities, vocational training programs, and career development workshops.
    • Documentation and Reporting:
      • Keep detailed records of counseling sessions, student progress, and post-secondary plans.
      • Generate reports and presentations for school administrators, parents, and stakeholders to communicate outcomes and achievements.
      • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding college admissions, career readiness, and student records.
