- Managing engineering design of assigned projects defining scope of project, preparing schedules and preliminary cost estimates, spending schedules, design drawings and specifications, and budget cost estimates;

- Maintaining logs, tracking systems, and specialized databases;
- Entering, retrieving, and analyzing data, preparing reports, and entering routine, technical, and specialized data into department computer system.
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering;
- Five (5) years of professional engineering experience;
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Some assignments may require a Professional Engineering (PE) Registration;
- Some assignments may require a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred;
- Five (5) or more years of experience managing large scale ($5 million or higher) transportation related projects from design through construction.

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill the position of Engineer, Principal in the Capital Projects Management Division. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and administering multi-faceted and complex federal-, state-, and locally funded transportation projects to include the design and construction of major streetscape, roadway, traffic, drainage, and bridge projects. The successful candidate will possess skills in project management of various state and federal grants as well as managing and supervising others.

This position is considered Essential, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
This individual may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays or on-call, as needed.

In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
