    Duties


    • You will prepare policy guidance in response to firefighter program related executive orders, public law, regulations, and agency requirements.
    • You will determine measures to reduce or eliminate the potential for fire or explosion.
    • You will verify personnel use the correct personal protection equipment during firefighting incidents to ensure safety.
    • You will identify defects of fire protection systems (e.g., equipment, clothing) to maintain operational efficiency.
    • You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident.
    • You will explain work requirements to fire inspectors and other employees related to new or changed procedures
    Requirements Conditions of Employment

    • Applicants must meet the Department of Defense (DoD) certification requirements:
    • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
    • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
    • Males born after must be registered for Selective Service.
    • This is a bargaining unit position.
    • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
    • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty

    Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.


    • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
    A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test
    You will be subject to random testing.


    • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
    • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g
    fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals)
    You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.


    • Required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
    • May be required to participate on hazardous response teams (HAZMAT)
    • This position is a 56 hour tour of duty

    May be required to participate in on-scene firefighting duties during emergencies, low manning periods or during stand-by hours while on 24 hour shift.


    • The employee is required to report for duty during natural disaster and other emergencies as directed by the Fire Chief.
    • This is a Mission Essential position
    You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision
    Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
    Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting fire safety inspections; 2) Providing guidance for eliminating fire and life safety hazards; 3) Preparing final fire inspection reports; and 4) Conducting fire prevention, detection, and suppression training
    This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for this position: Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor I, and HAZMAT Awareness
    These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement
