    Overview:

    The Internal Audit Department is responsible for reviewing and testing accounting and financial activities to provide a continuing appraisal of the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls. The Department provides informed and constructive analysis of existing and proposed procedural and operational functions by conducting its own audits as well as working with the Illinois Auditor General, its staff and contracted entities.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Internal Auditor position duties consists of:

    • Conducting routine audits under the direction of the Chief Auditor and Deputy, reviewing the operations and functions of the Office of the Secretary of State pursuant to the Internal Audit Plan, in compliance with the requirements of the Inspector General Management Directive System and in conformance with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
    • Participates as a team member in conducting predetermined or auditor-extended field work necessary to satisfy the audit/review objectives pertaining to expenditure related activities and management functions of the Office.
    • Participates in the preparation of initial report drafts detailing field work results and audit findings and recommendations for correction; prepares and submits final report to Chief Auditor.
    • Participates in planning the audit/review of expenditure-related activities and management functions of the office; establishes the scope and objectives; determines guidelines, criteria and procedures to be used.
    • Compiles, organizes, indexes and cross-references supporting work papers for each audit/review conducted; assists Inspector General's investigators in their conduct of reviews of Agency concerns.
    • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
    • Requires the ability to travel and possession of a valid Illinois Drivers' License.

    Education and Work Experience:

    Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college. Preferred candidates will also possess a minimum of five years of financial auditing and governmental accounting experience.
