Position Summary
The Quality Inspector ensures that all manufactured tools meet defined engineering specifications, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations by preventing defects, identifying non-conformities early, and driving continuous quality improvement across production processes.
Success in this role is measured by reduced defect rates, improved first-pass yield, timely inspection reporting, and zero customer complaints related to inspected batches.
Key Outcomes & Performance Expectations
Zero Defect Escapes to Customers
Inspect incoming materials, in-process components, and finished tools to ensure 100% compliance with technical drawings and specifications.
Achieve and maintain ≤ X% internal defect rate.
Prevent shipment of non-conforming products.
Improved First Pass Yield (FPY)
Identify process deviations early and communicate corrective actions.
Contribute to at least X% improvement in first-pass yield annually.
Provide real-time feedback to production teams to reduce rework and scrap.
Accurate & Timely Quality Documentation
Complete 100% of inspection reports within defined production timelines.
Maintain accurate inspection records, calibration logs, and quality documentation.
Ensure full traceability of inspected tools and components.
Data-Driven Quality Improvements
Analyze inspection trends and recurring defects.
Provide weekly/monthly defect reports with actionable insights.
Support root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
Compliance & Standards Adherence
Ensure adherence to company quality standards and relevant certifications (e.g., International Organization for Standardization standards such as ISO 9001 where applicable).
Maintain audit readiness at all times.
Support internal and external quality audits.
Equipment Accuracy & Calibration Control
Ensure measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMMs) are calibrated and functioning properly.
Report and isolate any out-of-calibration equipment immediately.
Achieve zero measurement-related inspection errors.
Core Responsibilities
Perform dimensional, visual, and functional inspections of tools and components.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
Use precision measurement instruments and testing equipment.
Identify non-conforming products and initiate corrective action procedures.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and supply chain teams.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S).
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of machining and tool manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
2–5 years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing environment (tool or precision machining preferred).
Training in quality systems and statistical process control is an advantage.

- Will frequently sit at a desk, stand and walk for prolonged periods on concrete
- Must have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE while in plant
- Operates and handles a computer, equipment and tools using hands and fingers frequently to complete tasks
Will use specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional exposure to extreme heat, hot, dust/fumes, cold outdoor and indoor conditions.
