    Position Title:
    Director of Development

    Reports To:
    Executive Director

    Classification :
    Exempt, full time (30+ hours/wk) or Consultancy. Salary from $75K +, commensurate with experience.

    We are willing to accommodate a full time, part time or consultancy role, depending upon the needs of the applicant and our organization.


    Job Summary:


    Working with the small but dynamic Nimbus Arts Staff and Board and reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short-term and long-term needs of the organization.

    This includes actively researching and cultivating major-gift donors and prospects, applying for institutional grant opportunities, and providing direction on messaging and strategy for program initiatives.

    This position works actively on many fundraising aspects of NIMBASH, Nimbus Arts' annual fundraiser, as well as providing strategic direction for and implementation of the annual fund drive and other fundraising efforts.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Cultivation and Fundraising:
    Develop, implement, and oversee all aspects of donor engagement (from individuals to corporations and foundations) to maximize both contributed and grant income revenue and long-term relationships
    Work with Executive Director and Board to develop annual and longer-term fundraising goals and identify donors for major gifts including leadership gifts, planned giving, and legacy contributions
    Create, develop and oversee all strategies and written content for fundraising, including donor cultivation materials, Annual Reports, NewsBriefs, solicitation proposals, and donation acknowledgements
    Work collaboratively with staff and consultants on overall messaging and branding; write press releases and other PR material as assigned
    Prepare development data analysis to track contributed income results and provide reports for Staff and Board review and decision-making
    Serve as spokesperson and public advocate for Nimbus Arts' mission within the funding community
    Coordinate with the ED and Business Manager to communicate donor requirements and funding restrictions to ensure that accountability and reporting obligations are met
    Work with the Sponsorship Committee to develop strategies and initiatives to secure community partnerships and sponsors.

    Government + Institutional Grant Opportunities:
    Work with Executive Director and colleagues to research, write, and submit complete and successful grant applications
    Work with the Business Manager on processes for receiving, documenting, and tracking grants.
    Ensure that grant reports are fulfilled in an accurate and timely manner

    Special Events:


    Work with the Executive Director and the Nimbus Arts team to plan, implement, and manage fundraising events, donor visits, cultivation events, and other special events, with a goal to increase revenue and develop long-term relationships.

    Provide support for and participate in such events
    Identify stewardship and cultivation opportunities that deepen donor engagement with Nimbus Arts, such as intimate receptions and events.
    Support fundraising efforts for NIMBASH, including overall strategy, messaging, donor and sponsor outreach, sponsorship funds collection, and other duties as assigned

    Qualifications and Skills:
    At least 3 years of manager-level non-profit development/fundraising experience; arts organization experience is ideal
    Demonstrated track record for soliciting and securing major gifts and grants
    Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, digital file management and web-based research tools, experienced and proficient with databases (ie Neon and ClickBid)
    Basic understanding of the financial and tax requirements for donation reporting
    Proactive, anticipatory, strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to respond and thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
    Ability to function effectively as a team member
    Exceptional oral and written communication skills
    Ability to build personal rapport and effective working relationships with Board Members, staff, donors, organizational partners and other stakeholders
    Excellent organizational abilities, time management skills and attention to detail
    Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
    Nimbus Arts is located in St. Helena, California and in person meetings are often required. Must possess a car and valid driver's license and be willing to work occasional nights and weekends. Must be able to actively lead and participate in tours and be able to lift at least 25 lbs.
