The Senior Vice President, Perioperative Service Line at Emory Healthcare provides enterprise-level leadership and has accountability for all perioperative strategy, business, financial and operational functions across hospitals and ambulatory sites-driving systemwide access, throughput, policy standardization, performance metrics, financial optimization, and cross-site asset and digital tool utilization while partnering with local perioperative leaders to deliver measurable improvements in operational throughput, quality, patient and staff experience, cost efficiency, and growth.

The SVP reports directly to Emory Healthcare Chief Operating and Administrative Officer and participates in the EHC Service Line Executive Committee to ensure close coordination between all service lines, clinical operations and the executive leadership team

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE LINE GOVERNANCE

  • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for service line operations across all EHC entities and affiliated locations, including enterprise perioperative services
  • Partner with service line, perioperative, and operating unit leadership to establish vision, strategic priorities, and performance goals for the clinical enterprise
  • Serve as a key liaison between clinical leaders, perioperative leadership teams, operating units, and system executives to ensure alignment, transparency, and effective communication
  • Facilitate collaborative, data-driven decision-making throughout the service line to ensure efficient and effective healthcare delivery model for all perioperative services
  • Lead the development, communication, and execution of enterprise-wide policies and escalation pathways supporting access, case prioritization, and operational standardization

CLINICAL OPERATIONS, QUALITY, PATIENT SAFETY, AND ACCESS 

  • Collaborate with service line leadership, perioperative leaders, and operating unit nurse executives to ensure patient safety, quality, and access across the entire care continuum
  • Partner with the Office of Quality to establish highly reliable systems that meet quality, safety, and patient experience objectives, including perioperative services
  • Coordinate with clinical departments, perioperative teams, and support services to ensure delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient care, including integration of research activities
  • Ensure standardization and spread of evidence-based best practices across service lines, balancing enterprise consistency with local operational needs
  • Partner with enterprise and entity leaders to advance access, throughput, and load balancing strategies that optimize patient flow and capacity utilization

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE, THROUGHPUT, AND PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

  • Align clinical, perioperative, and business functions to support efficient, effective, and sustainable service line operations
  • Lead enterprise access, throughput, and load balancing strategies, including roadmap development, execution, and outcomes-driven performance measurement
  • Oversee perioperative block management standards, including utilization thresholds, release times, allocation methodologies, and quarterly enterprise performance roll-ups
  • Lead process improvement and care transformation initiatives using operational excellence methodologies, performance improvement tools, and digital solutions
  • Conduct regular enterprise performance reviews, including monthly operating and perioperative reviews, and drive corrective action plans in partnership with entity leadership
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, standardization, and continuous improvement across inter-professional and cross-site care teams

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, CAPITAL PLANNING, AND RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION

  • Partner with service line and perioperative triad leaders to support budget planning, financial analysis, shared services operations, and enterprise financial optimization
  • Work with executive committees and operating unit leadership to develop, prioritize, administer, and monitor capital, operational, and personnel budgets
  • Lead perioperative capital prioritization and purchasing strategies to leverage economies of scale and optimize multi-location investments
  • Develop, implement, and monitor KPIs assessing financial performance, access, throughput, workforce productivity, and resource utilization
  • Drive enterprise workforce productivity standards, including worked hours per unit of service, education and orientation time, and care-setting-specific staffing ratios

CLINICAL STRATEGY, PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, AND GROWTH

  • Lead development and execution of clinical and perioperative strategies that enhance access, market share, program growth, and service line performance
  • Coordinate the integration and spread of signature and perioperative programs across EHC entities and affiliated outreach partners
  • Partner with service line, perioperative, site, and system leaders to advance new clinical initiatives, programs, and services
  • Ensure appropriate clinical and operational standardization while supporting innovation, digital enablement, and local operational needs
  • Identify automation- and technology-enabled opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and patient access throughout perioperative and service line operations

VALUE ANALYSIS, INFORMATICS, COMPLIANCE, AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

  • Lead enterprise value analysis strategy for perioperative and service line operations, including policy development, standard workflows, and recurring product utilization reviews
  • Co-chair or support enterprise perioperative value analysis councils to drive clinically appropriate standardization of supplies and implants
  • Collaborate with IT, analytics, and entity teams to enforce minimum data standards, documentation requirements, and appropriate use of clinical and digital applications
  • Integrate perioperative priorities into enterprise technology and systems governance processes to support standardization, innovation, and effective implementation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, federal, and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with administrators, physicians, perioperative leaders, and external partners to align operations, execute directives, and resolve issues

Additional Duties as Assigned

Travel: Travel between Emory operating units and affiliated locations may be required

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related clinical field
  • Experience - Proven experience in perioperative management and leadership, with 7 years in progressively responsible roles

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required):

  • Demonstrated success improving access, throughput, and case cancellations
  • Experience designing and enforcing policies and procedures specific to block management and case prioritization frameworks
  • Familiarity with accrediting bodies within the perioperative space (AORN, ACS, ASA, etc.)
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and partner with physician and nurse leaders
  • Analytics fluency that includes KPI development, dashboarding, analytics, and root-cause analysis
  • Experience with change management, leveraging communication skills that tailor to different care settings throughout the enterprise

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education - Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Industrial Engineering, Business, or related clinical field
  • Experience - 10 years minimum experience with at least 10 years in a management position
