Summary

Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, performs all aspects of fulfilling medication orders and distributing medications, including preparing, charging, prepackaging, delivering, outdating, ordering, and receiving.

Assists the Pharmacist in providing drug information, overseeing and monitoring safe medication use, controlling drug distribution and security, and tracking of medication use activities and exceptions.

Supports and maintains operational functions of the Pharmacy Department.

Qualifications

• Assists in all aspects of filling medication orders and distributing medications.
• Assists the Pharmacist in providing drug information and pharmaceutical care services to patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital personnel.
• Assists the Pharmacist in caring for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly. Identifies and understands dosage variations and performs dosage calculations for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures in full compliance with USP <797>.
• Ensures that pharmaceutical preparations are sterile, properly packaged, labeled, stored, and unexpired as appropriate.
• Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients, computes charges, and enters them into the computer as appropriate.
• Prepares selected reports and MARs.
• Reorders drugs and other Pharmacy supplies as needed.
• Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medications and supplies as needed.
• Aids in training of Pharmacy Technicians or other new employees.
• Participates in department and organizational performance improvements and CQI activities.
• Performs, monitors, and recommends improvements to Pharmacy operations to optimize patient safety and reduce the likelihood of medication errors.
• Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner.
• Performs assigned quality control activities on schedule.
• Performs assigned training activities on or before the relevant deadline.
• Maintains a professional, helpful and courteous relationship within the department and with other departments.
• Performs other pharmacy-related duties as requested or required.

Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required


Required License:
NCBOP Pharmacy Technician Registration


Required Certification:
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certificate
