Job summary
The position will generally and normally be assigned to the Billings Interagency Fire Dispatch Center and works under the guidance and direction of the SLO Fire Program and Billings Interagency Dispatch Center Manager.The job is responsible for dispatching resources for initial attack and support of wildland fires during complex and multiple incident occurrences that are beyond the scope of developed guidelines.
The dispatcher may be responsible for planning for, organizing and supervising dispatch support staffing during high periods of dispatch activityand/or expanded dispatch operations.
Responsibilities include mobilizing firefighting forces in order to provide initial attack fire suppression actions for wildland interface fires reported in areas including Montana Department Natural Resources Conservation Southern Land Office Area Billings Interagency Dispatch Center receiving reports from aircraft public local/state/federal agencies evaluating analyzing fire information determining appropriate action based on danger availability resources guides processing requests from Incident Commander suppressing forces logistical support intelligence etc referring selecting procedures specified interagency cooperative agreements between state local federal agencies continuously collecting analyzing disseminating situation information providing up-to-date status information documenting radio traffic phone conversations resource locations preparing formal reports using related computer systems tracking processes forwarding electronic mail accurately completing business documentation collecting weather observations notifying field personnel duty officers hazardous weather conditions requesting disseminating spot forecasts,
