- Evaluate individual needs to determine optimal eligibility for various veterans' benefits and entitlement claims.
- Manage and oversee veterans' cases through different stages of completion.
- Review veterans' medical records and prior claims to identify eligibility for additional benefits and services.
- Submit claims for federal processing, ensuring accuracy and conducting quality assurance reviews.
- Represent clients, interpret information for appeals for maximum entitlements.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and events on behalf of the agency.
- Coordinate with management for assistance with complex veteran claim packages.
- Advocate for veterans and engage in outreach activities.
- Associates degree in business communication or social services, and;
- 1 Year Experience in case management, benefits and claim processing, and/or military service with a focus on management services.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Requires daily computer work of 8 or more hours;
- May need to work beyond a 40-hour week due to workload fluctuations.
- Standard office setting in Missoula.
- On-site office work required 80-100% of the time.
- Telework option available 20% of the time.
- Community outreach in the Missoula area.
- Successful background check and clean driving record.
- Must obtain and maintain Veteran Affairs accreditation within six months of hire.

Veterans Services Specialist
The Montana Veteran Affairs Division is looking for a dedicated Veterans Service Officer (VSO) with top-notch multitasking skills and keen attention to detail. Based at the Missoula office, this role involves being a diligent case manager for veterans' benefits claims. Duties include preparing, submitting, and overseeing claims, as well as being a strong advocate for veteran clients and their families throughout the process, reporting directly to the Veteran Services Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
This role is part of the Veterans Services Officer Career Ladder, with progression based on performance, certifications, and meeting minimum qualifications.
