    JOB OVERVIEW

    This position is a part-time internship to working for the Production Engineer. The duration is from 20 May to 26 July 2024; working 20 to 31 hours a week. The Production Engineer is accountable for the production of goods associated with an assigned product line. The main job is to ensure that all assigned products are manufactured with the utmost safety, quality, and efficiency.

    This also includes acting as the primary contact with all internal customers, scheduling, procurement, production, and logistics and coordinating the flow of information to all stakeholders.


    DETAILED JOB DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES

    Engineering Review & Scheduling


    • Assist with the scheduling and documentation of all assigned product lines as they flow through Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Logistics.
    • Review Engineering deliverables to ensure correct engineering practices and HMT standards are being followed.
    • Work with the Engineering group to correct and/or improve current processes and practices.
    • Utilize the NCR system to document all errors and mistakes associated with the assigned product line.

    Buying/Planning


    • Act as primary contact for all TDC deliverables for the assigned product line.
    • Maintain POS schedule and communications.
    • Process all assigned product line projects through internal processes and create necessary work orders.
    • Manage the purchasing cycle, including generating requisitions, PO creation, PO follow-up, and assisting with final payment if required.
    • Establish specifications for procured items to ensure quantity and quality are in line with LEAN practices.
    • Monitor supplier performance, measure and provide feedback on supplier performance.
    • Purchase products competitively and look for opportunities to improve vendor pricing.

    Production


    • Coordinate production of all components for the assigned production line.
    • Ensure production deadlines are met while monitoring budget and expenditures.
    • Create and maintain daily metrics and production goals for assigned projects and analyze data as needed.
    • Consistently seek to identify areas for improvement on the GEMBA boards and in overall production execution.
    • Analyze operational issues and install new equipment as needed.
    • Provide technical support and training to the product line team.
    • Monitor product line inventory and ensure inventory levels are accurate and appropriate based on demand.

    Continuous Improvement


    • Help lead change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts, including the implementation of a LEAN manufacturing environment
    • Utilize and model HMT values in the execution of daily work activities and decision-making
    • Build relationships with frontline team members to help create and maintain a positive work environment
    • Partner with internal customers and suppliers, colleagues, and support services to ensure achievement of targets
    • Review daily production effectiveness to identify opportunities for improvement and work with the Operations team to get resolution
    • Ensure the development and implementation of action plans to address the root causes of failures

    Metrics and reports


    • Manages product line budgets and personnel.
    • Responsible for guiding production leads and employees.
    • Responsible for ensuring project work is timely and within budget.
    • Develop and implement production performance metrics as appropriate.

    Personnel development


    • Assessing required skills required for production personnel
    • Builds a competent and cost-effective production team.
    • Effectively communicate safety, quality, technical, and training issues for the team

    Safety and Environmental


    • Assessing and reporting safety hazards associated with the production team and equipment
    • Identify safety hazards within the production team and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the production team works in a safe environment. Implement, administer, and manage safety training programs.


    MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES



    • B.S. in Engineering or Engineering Technology (In Progress)
    • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Suite applications
    • Understanding of production processes & technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
    • Continuous improvement or process improvement experience.
    • Exposure to Lean environments.
    • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to facilitate change
    • Time management, delegation and organization skills with strong problem-solving ability
    • Ability to grow relationships with business partners and to lead, coach and develop employees
    • Schedule flexibility with the ability to provide on call coverage.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF JOB


    • Must be able to move about the shipping yard, shop floor and warehouse for extended periods of time
    • Must be able to work in uncontrolled climate conditions for extended periods of time
    • Must be able to frequently lift up to 40 pounds unassisted
