    Position Overview

    Primary Function:

    This 10-month Greenskeeper position will maintain University Golf Course: mows; edges; prunes & trims shrubbery; remove litter & debris. Supports the mission of the University, including receptivity to new initiatives as may be set forth by the Office of Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability. This position receives general supervision. Broad instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. Completed assignments and finished products are reviewed by the supervisor after completion.

    Position Description

    Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Mows, trims, edges, cleans, and maintains all areas of the Golf Course.
  • Provides routine preventative maintenance on all equipment associated with the maintenance of the Golf Course.
  • Collects, removes, and disposes of leaves, litter & debris from grounds.
  • Reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and Golf Course Assistant.
  • Performs seasonal and permanent plantings and cares for the landscape.
  • Must be able to work in all conditions of weather. Is available outside the normal 40-hour work week schedule to support the operations of the course.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Uses PPE as required.
  • Knowledge of, and/or ability to play the game of golf, and understanding of how the job performance affects the playing conditions of the course.
  • Judgment Required: Prescribed, established procedures are primarily used to perform the essential functions of this position.

    Machines & Equipment Used: All equipment associated with the Golf Course industry.

  • Attributes of a Successful Candidate

    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

    Experience: 1-2 years of experience performing manual work with exposure to small equipment operations and preventative maintenance.

    Job-Related Skills: Ability to safely lift 50 pounds to shoulder height.

    Licenses & Certifications: Tennessee driver's license Requires a health card to operate a 2 1/2 ton truck.

    Supplemental Information

    Working Environment: Most work is performed outdoors with exposure to weather conditions. May work at heights of 30' - 40'.

    Physical Requirements:
