    Description:


    The Senior Tooling / Molding Engineer will support injection molding qualification activities at clients Grand Rapids Tier 1 molded component suppliers.

    The ideal candidate is comfortable working remotely, with ability to visit Tier 1 suppliers (concentrated in US - Midwest region) and the Grand Rapids site so travel would be required when needed approx 5-10% travel.

    Role is part of a global engineering organization for clients Molding & Capital Tooling Team.


    Must Have:
    Minimum requirements:


    • Bachelors in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred) and minimum of 4 years of experience
    • Masters in Engineering (Plastics, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering preferred) and minimum of 2 years of experience



    Description:


    The Senior Molding Engineer is responsible for owning and driving mold development and injection molding projects through adherence to established product design, scientific injection molding process, tooling, resin, and equipment.

    The key responsibility of this position is to lead new injection molding qualification activities across molding suppliers, contract manufacturers and internal client sites.

    The Senior Molding Engineer is part of a global engineering organization for client's Molding & Capital Tooling Team. Their work is mainly independent, expecting


    Experience:


    • Assist in setting up robust injection molding processes on multi-cavity molds and insert molding
    • Experienced in the ability to partner and coordinate supplier qualification activities (PPAP, IQ, OQ, PQ, DOE, etc) to meet requirements of the application.
    • Proficient in generating qualification requirements and reports for injection molded components
    • Understands limits / fits, tolerance stack up analysis. Highly experienced in Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing (GDT) and application for inspection setup and tolerancing allowances of molded components
    • Use and understanding of Statistical Tools (Design of Experiments, Measurement System Analysis/Gage R&R, Process Capability and Statistical Process Control)
    • Experience leader of cross functional teams including R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Quality, Sourcing and Supply Chain through qualification processes
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationship with functional groups (R&D, ME, Quality Operations, Supply Chain and Regulatory)
    • History of mentoring team members

    Nice to Have:


    • Experience with contract manufacturers
    • Solid understanding of Plastic Part Design / Injection Molding Guidelines
    • Knowledgeable in the use of 3D CAD packages & Data Analysis software
    • Understanding of Mold Flow analysis
    • Rheology knowledge of both Crystalline & Amorphous plastics resin (examples include polycarbonate, acrylic, PVC, Nylon and Co-polyesters)
    • Use of Society of Plastics Industry Standards (SPI) for mold build classification and texture/surface appearance recognition
    • PPAP and Agile MAP experience is a plus

    Requires a University Degree and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
