    ORGANIZATION:

    Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency for Northwest Indiana, founded in 1965, the NWICA Mission is to ensure the people who experience financial hardship find opportunities, resources, and respect. We do this by helping individuals flourish regardless of income, ability, or age. Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and Starke Counties.

    MAJOR DUTIES:

    • The primary function of the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor is to promote breastfeeding within the community and the clinic.
    • Execute outreach activities of the WIC Program.
    • Recruits and counsels WIC prenatal and nursing mothers.
    • Provides breastfeeding support and education for new mothers.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Candidate should be a current or previous breastfeeding mother with a minimum of 6 months of breastfeeding experience, and breastfed within the last 5 years.
    • Willing to successfully complete WIC Peer Counselor training.
    • Must have reliable transportation.
    • Must have internet access at home.
    • Basic knowledge of clerical work (filing, data entry, telephone etiquette, etc.) required.
    • Have excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills.
    • Self-starter, able to work independently, service oriented with attention to detail.
