    Summary This is a Competitive Detail not-to-exceed one year. This is a temporary action that may be terminated at any time.

    This is a detail opportunity open to Department of Navy permanent civilian employees in the competitive service currently at the ND-03 grade level (or higher).

    The selectee will be placed on a temporary detail not to exceed 1 year.

    The detailee for this position will serve as an Engineer in the Airborne Systems Branch in the office of NAVAL SURFACE WARFARE CENTER.

    Duties * You will function as an engineer for the Airborne Weapons Branch (JXNS), specifically the MH-60 Romeo and Sierra Fleet Support Team.

    * You will Provide engineering support to the Fleet Support Team for the MH-60 Romeo and Sierra Helicopters. * You will support Engineering Investigations consisting of Hardware and Software.

    * You will support troubleshooting any failures in the MH-60 products and provide detailed technical reports consisting of Root Cause Analysis, Risk Assessments, and Courses of Action with initial budget projections.

    * You will develop and review System Processes and System Tests including full system and component level tests. * You will provide other engineering support to branch related programs. Requirements Conditions of Employment * See Other Information section for additional requirements. * Both agencies' management and HR must agree to reimbursement details. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) must be signed by the detailee and management. * Must have received a Fully Successful or higher performance rating on last performance cycle. * This detail opportunity may be rescinded if detailee fails to meet position requirements.

    * You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.

    Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

    * This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.

    You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

    Qualifications In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.

    Education Applicants must meet the basic education requirements:

    For the 0801, Professional General Engineering Series:
    Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.

    To be acceptable, the program must:
    (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

    Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g.

    Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico The FE examination is not administered by the U.

    Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).

    OR

    Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

    Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

    Additional information Detail cannot result in a promotion or permanent position without further competition. Detailee will continue to be paid by the home command, and salary will be reimbursed. This position may be subject to the priority Placement Program. There will be no change in your salary during the timeframe of this training opportunity.
