    Result of Service

    The individual contractor will support Programme Officers in project management, event planning and will contribute to the successful communications and advocacy of the UN Office for Partnerships, particularly as it relates to the Decade of Action.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    This position is located in the United Nations Office for Partnerships. Guided by the priorities of the UN Secretary-General, UN Partnerships is the gateway to the UN system to connect and co-create partnerships to deliver solutions to reach everyone, everywhere. In its role as a connector, UN Partnerships proactively engages, convenes and leverages stakeholders, initiatives and solutions in support of the Decade of Action to keep the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UN Partnerships oversees the SDG Advocates programme, the UN Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF), and the SDG Strategy Hub.

    The incumbent will predominantly report to the UNOP Executive Director to support initiatives of the UN Democracy Fund in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as Francophone Africa and work closely with other members of the UN Democracy Fund and UN Office for Partnerships team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support Programme Officers in the project administration through review of project checklists, progress reports and correspondence;

    • Assist in closing of projects at the end of the cycle; help identifies lessons learned and successful, replicable or scalable outcomes;

    • Participate in monitoring and evaluation processes of UNDEF projects;

    • Prepare and research on project concepts and support the review of project proposals, project documents and budgets;

    • Participates in the development and engagement in terms of the UN Democracy Fund partnerships, fundraising and resource mobilization activities;

    • Support the Francophone work of the UN Democracy Fund particularly in translation and correspondence;

    • Supports when necessary the UN Democracy Fund programme assistant on website and database management duties;

    • Plans and organizes events, meetings and special projects convened by the UN Democracy Fund and more broadly the UN Office for Partnerships: identify relevant speakers and facilitate their involvement; prepare background notes and talking points; produce reports.

    • Conduct research and analysis for presentation of the UN Democracy Fund; draft background notes, talking points, and other briefing materials. Draft correspondence for senior UN staff regarding partnerships and advocacy;

    • The individual contractor will execute UN Democracy Fund ongoing outreach coordination efforts, communication strategy and activities to publicize major events;

    • Develop communication materials for the UN Office for Partnerships leadership. Lead in dissemination of various communication products, both internally and externally;

    • Monitor developments and trends regarding issues relevant to Democracy and the UN, the Sustainable Development Goals and specific initiatives of the UN leadership and the UN Office for Partnerships;

    • Research a broad scope of information sources, printed and electronic; compile and present information for use in the preparation and production of advocacy efforts;

    • Support other UN Democracy Fund and UN Officer for Partnerships tasks as required.



    Qualifications/special skills

    Advanced university degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, environmental studies or related area. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme and partnership support, in combination with an advanced university degree is required

    Experience in project administration and project budget is required

    Experience in planning and organizing events and special projects is required

    Experience in writing talking points and background notes is desired

    Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English and French are required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
